It's only supported on the GSM varients in the US. DLNA is the only option. Unlikely SW will change this as they would have had to install a 5 pole headset jack (ground, audio left, audio right, mic, video) to support video, and route video signal from the AP to the jack.

Actually, When I look in the jack, there are 5 poles. 4 on the sides and one on the bottom. Having one on the bottom is not common for most headphone jacks. It still may be a possibility.

As summerfish said, the hardware supports it.... so why no love from Samsung/Verizon.

I am 99% sure this was a Verizon decision, just wanting to lock it down and to give them the choice in 6 months to have a "Wired Video Out" fee.
Fraking Verizon, first the Droid and now this...

I personally think that they are going to charge for a propietary cable, or charge for a special app after Froyo release.
    Stupid VZW.

To a mod: I don't think this should be under troubleshooting.... this is a feature that is not included on the Fascinate, and if it should be moved to any subforum besides the general talk, then it should have gone to "All Things Root"

You know, just recently I was thinking though. The jack may be the same as the other Galaxy S phones, but the other hardware may not be. It's like saying, "My brother has that same exact intake on his Accord. Is your Civic the same engine?" Guess because it's the same jack (because it fits the phone), doesn't mean that it HAS to support the same hardware inside.

The more differentiation you add between products on the assembly line, the more cost you add, usually. I just don't know why Samsung would do that, especially on something so minor, hardware wise. I suppose if it allows them to leave out an entire circuit or something to cut costs or make the phone smaller (and it's NOT smaller than the captivate), then I guess it could make sense.

I also want to add that while I use the flash as a flashlight all the time, and on a rare occasion as an actual flash for photos, i would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather have video out. I could really really use that for work, and for play.

True that, but it is not the same exact shape. Verizon requires slightly different hardware to work, therefore making some things different inside. As to comparing it to the Captivate, it needs different network hardware. The Captivate also came with 16GB built in plus an SDCard while the Fascinate didn't... and the Fascinate has a flash. So many things can make it not contain what it needs for TV out.

I've been out of the loop... but what 2.2 leak? I googled it and all I could find is on a Telus only leak.

Here's the TV out related thread over on XDA. So far no luck, even with the current mod/hack they're testing that "tries" to enable the output.

***WARNING*** Don't monkey around with that and FRY your device!
