    Folks,

I'm pretty much 100% on going Android this year, I'm ready to upgrade right now. The iPhone next gen may swing me but I personally prefer the open architecture of Android. The Palm Pre looks really good too but I'm not 100% on how popular it will be with 3rd parties.

Thing is all the phones are not ticking my boxes. I'm UK based for reference.

The G1 is OK but far, far too large for me. And no 3.5mm :(
The HTC Magic is actually quite nice, good size. Alas it's on voda (so a no for me) and again, no 3.5mm jack.

So we come to the Sammy i7500; well it's ticking most boxes for me when it comes to size and 3.5mm jack goodness but that design? it's sooooo samsung 2001, looks pretty bad to me. And a clicky d-pad in preference to a decent rollerball / optical pad? what are they thinking?

So my question - are there any other android handsets set for UK release this year? I'm pretty sure I'm up to date on my news but just wondered if someone had seen anything I'd missed?

I think there are asus and acer phones coming out some time.

I'm like you, dying for a 3.5mm jack. If the i7500 could fit into the case of the HTC Magic I would be satisfied. At a glance I found the looks of the i7500 really ugly but after looking for some more photos it actually looks decent.

I'm not convinced that's the final design for that Samsung, the lack of trackball and the mysterious fifth button on the face are two obvious issues.
A D-Pad and a trackball aren't exactly interchangeable. I would've preferred the D-Pad as the trackball seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes, and there have been times where I have stopped touching the trackball and the cursor, selector, or whatever on the screen is still moving. A lack of arrow keys is a bit of a frustration for me at times, like when I'm in an online form and just want to move to the next field and the trackball sends me 3 fields diagonally instead.

Yeah, don't really hold out for any industry-leading design from either of those houses myself :(

Yeah I suppose it could look worse, it's just not very imaginative when compared to some of their other touch-based handsets. Suppose I could cope but would prefer something a little more sleek.

Interesting but none are for me... I'm all about thinness, don't care for keyboards, they only matter if you are writing a lot of email on them. Which I'm not as I have a blackberry for work.

    Thanks for your reply.

Fair comment punkzanyj, there is a time and a place for a d-pad. The trackball on BB perl was great, the one on my 8900 is a bit sucky and does sometimes have 'interesting' ideas about what I meant to do.

The main thing I would miss would be the way the trackball on the Magic lights up. I know its a little thing but its those little things about the Magic that make me want to buy it. What phone do you guys think will be more expensive? I think probably the Magic but thats just what I think.

Hey everyone. I'm quite new to the Android Community and I noticed that China released yet another phone that claims to run under the Android OS.

It was meant to mimic the iPhone so it's called a Ciphone F003
Kinda complete except for the 3G. Any thoughts on this?

Does that thing have a tv tuner in it? Why can't we get that sorta stuff and heaps of Cheap Chinese phones do? Is this to do with data usage and our carriers wanting us to download shows through them so we'll pay heaps or is there some kind of technology their TV stations have or something?

Yea, I'm hoping that the extremly nice looking interface HTC has added will make more people go out and buy an Android phone, to me thats all thats lacking; widespread use of the OS. Then its android market can florish with applications and the OS will be the perfect platform.

I just wish they hadn't put that silly "lip" in the device. To me it looks as if HTC still wants to get rid of all their WinMo stock, because they know that WinMo is bollocks in comparison to Android. So to be able to phase out production slowly their first android phones are purposely ugly.

I dunno, the Magic turned out pretty well. The Hero doesn't look half bad.

I have this phone but I think the OS is an Android clone made by AMD. I am thinking of loading Android on it. Has anyone tried this yet?
