I kinda feel like I would be buying another palm pre if I bought the evo right now.. Anything coming out in a few months that will be better?

That won't be hard to beat considering all the issues the EVO has now:
    defective screens, light leaks
30 FPS screen lag (confirmed by HTC to be hardware handicap)
    low bit rate 720p recording

The contenders will be the Galaxy S and the Moto Droid X.

Htc still has time to correct these issues, and I hope they do. I may opt for the galaxy s pro(same as galaxy s but with 4G and a hardware qwerty), b/c I prefer a hardware qwerty. And its not a hardware handicap, its software. They cheaped out on buying the proper drivers. A quick kernel update could rectify it completely. I hope they seriously up the quality of the next evo's. This is a big scratch on their pretty good record.

Any idea when the Galaxy Pro is coming to sprint?

I get an upgrade every 12 months so if I have to wait 6 months into I might as well just get the evo I suppose.

My upgrade isn't until november(moment early adopter and all that, n-e-v-e-r a-g-a-i-n. Ugh. ) so that will give me plenty of time for the evo/galaxy s/4G superphone here to mature, get the kinks worked out(hopefully) and have a healthy homebrew community with custom themes roms and persistent root!

Right now, as ironic as it seems, samsung galaxy s has my eye, and it fits all my requirements, which I listed about a week ago. Fits them perfectly in fact. 4G, slide out qwerty, 4" screen, 1ghz hummingbird, etc etc. Let's just hope since this is the sammy flagship, it gets all the support and care it rightfully deserves.

My Evo isn't having any issues other than being laggier than I was expecting. Galaxy S Pro looks good except for the 4" screen. I know it sounds crazy but I'm not going any smaller than my Evo. .3 inches doesn't sound like much but think about a Hero screen compared to an iPhone..same difference in size and iPhone seems considerably bigger than a Hero screen. 4.3 inches is just enough for me to enjoy web browsing. Only thing I don't like about the Evo is that lack of a hardware keyboard.

Anyone considering the Motorola Droid X? That looks like a serious contender. I'm sure there will be better phones in a few months with the very day advancements. If the Droid X doesn't blow me away, then I will wait for a phone with Gingerbread for when I go to Europe.

All reports point to the HDMI hardware. It could be plausible the gfx card and hdmi are integrated; hdmi forcing it to 30fps to make it compatible for tv-out. The work-around would be to disable HDMI altogether; therefore negating the HDMI selling feature of the phone. Go over to xda to read the 57+ pages.

Haven't been to the xda site, but more or less was basing it on htc history. On the old winmo phones, mogul/tp2 etc, they pulled the same crap, 30fps, but at that time it really wasn't important to the user experience as winmo was graphic intensive.

And hearsay has it that the htc official statement is they did it to "save battery" and they are working on "fully optimizing it further". Ill have to do some digging later to pull the article.

Hey, when you say upgrade, do you mean you're able to get a new phone to replace your current one for free, do you get a new phone at a really good discounted price, or do you just buy a new phone yourself every year? If it's one of the first 2, do you have to sign up for something like that when you are going to buy a 2 year contract from sprint (i'm assuming you have sprint), and how would you sign up if you do? TIA!

You get new customer pricing on phones every 12 months. Its the Sprint Premier customer plan. Nothing to sign but you need to be on a individual plan of at least $69.99 a month or (I think) a shared plan of $99.99 a month. Theres a discount on accessories and a couple other things but the real perk is the upgrade pricing.
