Hi I would love for my Android to lock after 3 hours of inactivity.. In settings I see 30 min max :/

What apps would you advise to do this?

PS other times I'd also want to force an immediate lock .. how to? a separate application could do this?

Thank you..

I don't know a way of tracking inactivity but there is a way to track user activity. You can catch a callback called onUserInteraction() in your activities that is called every time the user does any interaction with the application. I'd suggest doing something like this:
@Override public void onUserInteraction(){ MyTimerClass.getInstance().resetTimer(); } f your app contains several activities, why not put this method in an abstract super class (extending Activity) and then have all you activities extending it. :) :) :)

all in all - I would love for my Android to lock after 3 hours of inactivity.. In settings I see 30 min max :/ is there any way to alter this?

is there really no app (w/o root) that can set a password lock after x hours or say daily at 6am and 6pm

and initiate a lock?

I see apps like these can set a password ..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5sc2Ryb2lkLmNlcmJlcnVzIl0.

can do it ...

maybe some workaround could be made - to say auto reboot the device daily at 6am? (this way my encryption password would be required - http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/861313-encrypt-device.html#post6661625 )

I just want to deter thief's from using it .. and lock it .. but every 3 min is too short/annoying for me..

thank you..

ao i have this InstantLock app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hypernovaeapps.instantlock

here is what i wrote to developer:

==============

gteat app..

but i see that it removes the pin lock ..

i still want to have it go into effect as per settings .. every 30 minutes .. in case of loss .. or friends want to "play"

can i still have that?

how?

because with your application .. it removes the pin lock .. even if i set it again :/

as another option .. even better .. can you set your lock app to run / engage every 12 hours .. or every day at 3am.. 3pm .. ?

this would work grat!!

or maybe there is another app that i can use to make your app run?

but i do not have root

thanks..

- Andrei

what do u think?

Tasker will certainly do what you want but can be over-complex if you just want a simple "time clock" to do simple things at set times. In this case there are simple alternatives like Phone Schedule, which I use to run a backup app daily and to change the volumes at night. Works well for me and much simpler than Tasker :)

I gave up on Tasker years ago. It's extremely powerful and complex but can do so much!
Thank for finding an easier alternative, JB. :)

If an app requires interactive input on launch then you're probably out of luck using a simple timer app.

I'm a bit unclear about your overall aim though; can you explain what you want to achieve by running this particular app on a timer? Perhaps there is a better solution to the problem you are trying to solve.... if I better knew what the problem was :)

PS: see the post from breadnatty08 earlier that points out that Tasker can do what you want unaided. This may be the place to start looking for a working solution to your problem, although it may require more effort to implement.

so in case I lose my android or it is stolen

naturally I want to prevent use

the default security PIN lock has a maximum lock time of 30 minutes and it's too short for me and is annoying (why couldn't they put more options say 3 hours or 6 hours.. or etc.. maybe there is a way to modify this?)

so I would want some application that can lock the device say every 6 hours or every day at say 3am and 3pm and obviously at boot - that can not be by passed with safe boot or etc ...

I can not seem to find such an application ..

please help ..

thank you ..

I went ahead and merged all your threads together since they are all pretty much related to the same end result. Please keep all your questions to your thread, there is not need to clutter up the forum with new threads, this makes it easier for others to follow and help and give you suggestions. ;)
