Anyone actually receive the Gingerbread update OTA?

It looks as if everyone is manually updating their Nexus Ones but has anyone actually received the Official OTA update?

When Froyo came out, I lasted all of few hours before I got impatient and manually updated my phone. Since FRF91, I've managed to control my urges and waited to receive the updates OTA. I've noticed that I usually get the update notification on the Monday following a release. I don't know if I cane wait 4 days, but I'll give it a try.

The heck with that. I never got my panties in a bunch over the GB delay so I had planned on waiting for the OTA like always did.

Come 11PM, I realize my 9 month old 2TB HD took its life and took with with it 1.4TB of my movies and misc junk....all gone:eek::( I took a risk without backing up and I paid the price:p

Needed a pick me up so I manually updated my N1 a couple of hours ago, its now 4AM and my eyes are very very heavy but they're smiling:D

    It is pretty:cool:

There is absolutely no glory in waiting. Allow your urge to update to bloom.

Manual update takes no longer than 5 to 6 minutes. :)

I take it the OP is nervous about this not being the same as the official release. Am I right? :)

I updated manually when 2.2 came out and it all worked out well.

Although there is a part of me that does worry about legitimacy of updates I find on the internet, I did do the manual update to get Froyo because it was a noticeable improvement over Eclair and I just couldn't wait for the official release. Gingerbread on the other hand isn't a big leap from Froyo, so my cautious nature is beating out my urge to update. I guess if it doesn't come by Monday, I'll probably do it manually. I already have the zip file saved on my computer.

what exactly are you afraid of ??? if it's modified in any way it won't install ...

there is no reason to be "cautious" here ,everything is done securely !

Like I said in my original post, I'm giving Google till Monday to send the update OTA. If it doesn't come by then, I'll most likely do it manually. I'm actually not too worried about the legitimacy of the Gingerbread update because I can see that the link is to Google's server and not some random tech site. I just prefer to get updates OTA because it helps me sleep better at night knowing that it's legit and I'm not going to brick my phone by messing around with the bootloader or other critical areas of the phone. If I could afford a new phone, I probably wouldn't be so cautious.

thrust me / us ... this phone is built for this sort of thing ,you can't brick it by updateing manually or by rooting it. it's like buying a pc and never entering BIOS because you are afraid you'll brick it [actually you can if you are dumb enough to set something wrong ,but this is not the point here].

I updated my phone with a head cold, playing internet Scrabble while eating chex mix and drinking a Coke Zero. Brains never entered into it. I think it took all of 5 minutes including the download.

The process of a manual update is the same as an OTA update, all you're doing is initiating it. No messing with the bootloader at all

So the question of the original poster still stands...

Has anyone gotten the OTA update yet?

As with any OTA update, the registered developer Nexuses (Nexii?) get them first, which is where the download link came from. So yes, someone has received the OTA somewhere. Then they have a tiered roll-out to consumers based on region, serial number and the Mayan calendar.

The problem with asking that question here is because we're so damned impatient that ... well this explains it:

Trust me, If I can do this update (and I did), it is idiot-proof!

The peer pressure is strong in this forum. If I give in to the dark side, I'll have to change my name to Darth Bidnez.

I can understand being cautious. This stuff is not exactly full proof. It's one thing when you get the OTA from Google, and it's another to go somewhere, download something that may or may not be the real thing, then install it.

Having said that, I have upgraded. Here's a link: How to Install Android 2.3.3 GingerBread on Nexus One [Guide, Download] | TechnoBolt

    ...it has the instructions too.

Works very well. I see that you're almost ready to give into peer pressure anyway, I thought you could use some reassurance. :)

Plus considering we have all upgraded, I would believe it to be safe.

Call me Darth Bidnez. I have given in to the dark side. The update is installing as I writing this post.

....and Darth Bidnez is now wondering why he even questioned it?:D

Updating to 2.3.3 really is the dark side. The whole look of Gingerbread is black. Anyone know where I can read a list of changes?
