Anyone else having lousy upload speeds in San Jose?

I live in south San Jose, CA and since activated as of the Epic's release date, I have been getting under 200 Kbps for my upload test via the Speedtest app pointed at the San Jose server. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I've already called Sprint and they were helpful as usual, not. I've driven around my area and noticed normal download speeds, but uploads have been abysmal.

Not in San Jose, but my uploads are also pretty weak.. Sub 200 even on 4G.

Yikes! The Sprint rep told me that there was a major upgrade in central CA and Sacramento that was being done. I'm hoping that was the reason and not some hardware or carrier configuration issue. I used to have the AT&T Galaxy S and returned it when I found out AT&T deliberately neutered the HSUPA from it.

Ok, not sure what's going on, but was just at the local Sprint trying out the demo units to make sure I don't have a bum unit. Good news is that my unit's not bad. The bad news is that each demo unit had around the same upload speeds of <200 Kbps, while the two Evo 4G units were doing around 600-700 Kbps. And yes, I set every phone to have wifi and 4G disabled. Also, I noted the download speeds to be 100-200 Kbps less than the Evo as well.

Same here on slow upload/download speeds on 3g, wifi rocked out at 18mbps/2mbps. 4G here got 4mbps/1mbps.

Same, not in California but my husbands EVO is 2 to 3 times faster then my Epic on speedtests. His call quality is better also as I also seem to have 0 to 1 bar. Today I had a 9.9 kB/s upload while he had 55 kB/s. Still slow for both but 55 is a lot better then 9.9.

I exchanged my Epic, thinking it was a problem with the phone, but the second one is no better then the first. I'm really bummed but if this isn't resolved, I won't be able to keep my phone. :(

This is so disappointing, looks like none of the US Samsung Galaxy's are any good. Although, this one seemed to have the best collection of hardware bits. You have the Vibrant and Captivate with 16 GB internal storage but with an unoptimized file system that causes occasional lags, they need a fix for that, too. AT&T who neutered their Captivates to disable the HSUPA radio, which cuts upload speed from 1 Mbps to 300-400 Kbps. And now this issue which may be attributed to a weaker radio (lowest SAR rating of most cell phones, well guess this is why) along with the universal GPS flakiness issue. I've been through them all except for the upcoming Fascinate from Verizon and tried to love them all, but I think I'm done, my hopes have been crushed. It doesn't give me the warm fuzzy feeling about Samsung at all. Well, hopefully things improve with time, but I'm not going to hold my breath especially with a 2 yr commitment hanging over my head. But damn, that screen is so beautiful. Anyway, good luck to all!

I have the Evo and Epic in hand and tried Speedtests several times and am coming to the same conclusions as everyone else. Hopefully it's something an ota update can fix. Maybe they were conservative with the Radios' power to increase battery life?

I have less than 200 kbps too. In fact, I barely break 100. What is the technical reason for this? Is it related to the weak phone signal?

I bet it does. Hope it can be fixed by firmware and not physical issue. Maybe samsung will issue a free antenna booster bumper/case? haha Jk.

Whatever they do, they need to do it within 30 days so some of us can get out of the contract if we need too. I don't want to though. It took me a while to find a phone that I didnt just like, but loved. :)

Hey all! There's a newer thread started by John Woo regarding the same issue. Maybe we can just resume there so we're not divided. Anyway, i suggest that everyone call up Sprint to make this a bigger priority. While you're at it, email chris@engadget.com to ask him to look into it as well. I did it and asked him to do a piece on it. I've used all of the Galaxy phones and like this one the best, would like this issue resolved ASAP so I can be comfortable with buying the phone again and getting married to Sprint. Lol

I sent Engadget a tip on this 2 days ago also. Maybe if everyone complains they'll bring this to the surface so Sprint or Samsung has to respond.
