Support Anyone have light leakage?

    I found one post from a member of another forum who had the same problem. My EVO is working as expected but the only thing that is kind on bothering me is the light leakage above the home screen button. It is really only evident when the screen is showing something black.

    Considering that I have no glitches at all on the phone, or at least none that I have noticed, I'm not sure if I want to take a chance of sending the phone back and possibly getting back a less than reliable replacement (maybe even a refurbished).

    I wouldn't worry about it at all. It's a known issue on almost EVERY HTC phone to date. The Hero had its screen that collected dust under it, then the Incredible had light from the bottom, along with the Evo 4g. The evo 3d has the search key that has half of it lit from the backlight on the screen at all times when the screen is active.


    Light leaks are possibly the only hardware flaw HTC consistently makes, along with screen separation problems over time.

    Don't know if it will work on the new phone, but I run Screen Filter on my 3D and just keep the button lights off altogether.

    Unlit buttons are a matter of personal preference, but I have no trouble finding them in the dark.

    My OG EVO had light leakage, but the new LTEvo is perfect. No light leakage at all!

    Didn't realize it was so common. I had light leak from all of the hard buttons on my EVO from day 1 too. Oh well.

    And I thought my 3vo was the only one!

    My ltevo has no light leakage at all trust me... Was one of the first things I looked for... I'm anal about that stuff.. So no leakage for me luckily

    My OG EVO had the light leakage issue just bellow the capacitive touch buttons. LTEVO no such issue as of yet (knocks on wood ;)

    Very Lucky indeed. ;)

    My OG had it, not bad, but it was there. The Hero had dust, and I didn't have the 3vo long enough to really notice.

    The LTE doesn't show any leakage.

    My original Evo and my 3D had no light leakage but sadly my new Evo LTE has some in the center. It's not as bad as some pictures I've seen but it's definitely noticeable on black screens.

    Here is a picture of someone's light leakage that was posted on another forum:

    He noticed that the one that had problems was from a box with a large security seal sticker. His 2nd Evo had a smaller sticker (we are assuming they are from 2 different assembly lines) and did not have the light leakage problem. I checked my box and it also has the larger sticker. For those of you who have the light leakage problem...do you also have the larger sticker? It would be interesting to gather a larger sample size to see if there is a direct correlation.

    Now there's an article referencing the XDA thread also:

    Even though I still haven't decided, the light leak issue never really bothered me...even though I did notice it from time to time on the original EVO. Just seems like a typical issue on HTC phones.

    I've seen some pretty horrific images when I googled this problem, but others don't seem to be having what I have. In fact, the more I look into it, the less convinced I am there is a problem at all.

    Here's the deal: For every color other than black (say, a white webpage!), the bottom of my screen (I'm talking the very bottom, almost under the screen plane) shows distinct lines of light. Held exactly perpendicular to the plane of vision, there is no (or very little) evidence of these lines. But tilt the phone's bottom just a little bit away from you and you'll see the lines (similar to coherent wave interference patterns in appearance). In normal use, when I am reading the top of a webpage in portrait orientation, or the left in landscape, such a position causes the fringes/ripples/lines to be visible.

    I've already gotten the first LTE replaced due to a discolored band appearing on the screen, and I admit I may have been too preoccupied with that major problem to notice this minor one. Does anyone else have this issue? Don't tell me from memory; you might not have noticed. Just open a webpage (like google) on medium screen brightness and look down toward the bottom of the phone. See any waves of light?

    Let me know.

    PS: My camera lens (internal) appears to have been mounted a bit crooked. Anyone familiar with the optics able to tell me if this is a bad thing? I've noticed my HDR pictures have been rather blurry, but sadly I lost my means of comparison without actually doing any real comparison.

    Doesn't matter if someone else is having the same issues and it doesn't bother them, if it bothers you then you should definitely return it.

    Very true. But I want to know if all devices have them -- if it's not a "problem" and all LTE's are like that, I needn't bother myself or Sprint with another fruitless journey to the store, right?

    It's fairly obvious; it's not like I have to hunt for the issue or a certain angle. When I'm in messages, the whole bottom of the input box is a bit squiggly/uneven because of the effect. I think that's the most extreme example.

    Dreamliner, no! That's real light leakage there in your pic! The 100% legitimate, severe, "bad" kind! I've seen that exact kind of dark-screen light leakage (the bright kind above the home key) before! It comes up online in various threads. Mine does not do that at all. Sir, get that phone replaced right away (if it bothers you) because quite frankly that ain't supposed to happen.
