I want to port my and my wife's numbers over to droids, but want to do it after we receive the phone. If I order through Wirefly and get 2 new numbers, can I just take them into any verizon store and get our numbers ported over as long as we don't cancel our existing verizon accounts?

If you are already verizon customers and your just getting new phones (i.e. updating your contract) then you don't have to port your number. You can order from wirefly and when you get your new phones just call in to activate them (i.e. *228) and your number will just switch over to them.

You only need to port your number if you are coming from a different company (i.e. have att, sprint or land line) that you want on your new verizon lines.

Hope that answers it for you...

My wife and I both have sepearte AT&T accounts.

If I sign up for my verizon account and port both our numbers via wirefly, will the AT&T phones stop working immediately?

That's why I was thinking I could sign up on wirefly and just get 2 new numbers, and then go into a brick and mortar store and get our AT&T numbers ported over to replace those 2 numbers assigned by wirefly.

What I remember is that it takes some time for the numbers to switch over. I would ask wirefly because they may be able to send you the phones and not actually send the porting request through until you have the phones...

No the numbers do not port until you receive the phones and activate them. I know because I asked their customer service the same question.

As far as I know this should not be a problem, but I would still recommend you talk to wirefly customer service. They have a live chat during the day so you should be able to get your questions answered.

Thanks, I'm always worried about customer service when it comes to off the wall questions because a lot of times they'll just tell you what you want to hear to make the sale.

Agreed the call center sales people are hit or miss, but they have some very responsive folks who monitor these forums. I would send a PM to Wirefly_Ari.

FWIW, I have ordered from Wirefly more than once. No complaints.

I just checked amazon and they're doing the same deal. Amazon also has the droid docks for ~$17.50. I'm going to get one for me and the wife to use as alarm clocks.

I love my dock, the only complaint I have about it at night is the buttons stay lit up. Once we get FroYo they won't anymore, so I'm stoked. :)

Hey Curt941, in quickly reading through the thread, I just wanted to let you know that if your order from Wirefly your AT&T numbers will port after you receive the phones. We will track the phones to your door, and the porting process will automatically initiate after you have the phones in-hand. Please feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.

When you place an order with Wirefly for a Verizon phone, and choose to port over your number from another carrier, we send out the new equipment with a temporary number, and provide a toll free number for you to call to complete the port process. You can even activate your phone and your wife's phone seperately. You will not lose service on your AT&T phones until you call to complete the port for that phone.

So there is no need to visit the Verizon store. On Wirefly.com, after you add the phones to your cart, just check the box that says

So I went into the verizon store (found out it wasn't actually a corporate store) and asked if they had offers for free droids like Amazon and Wirefly and they told me "well, you have to remember that if you order from them you've got to come in and pay to get it activated, and if anything happens you have to pay us, and blah blah blah."

That really pissed me off. I mean I know they're sales people, but don't straight up lie to me.

Well, I wouldn't say they were lying. If you bring your phone in to them to activate it, they will charge you for it :p Not that you have to do that.

The only thing I've heard 'bad' about Wirefly is that you have to stay on a priceplan at a certain price point to get the deals, and if you change your priceplan within 6 months they will charge you extra. This could be misinformation I was fed, though, because I was one of those 'not actually a corporate' salesperson.

Every reseller has terms that the buyer should read and ensure that they fully understand before agreeing as most have a penalty/fee/ETF for not abiding by the terms.

Yeah, exactly, I don't have to get it activated by the verizon store, it'll be activated from Wirefly, so the guy just kinda mentioned it in a misleading/lieing way.

As for the plan, that shouldn't be a problem, i'm going with the 1400 minute text and talk plan for my wife and i, that should be plenty of minutes.

I wanted to let everyone know that we’ve raised the amount of our Bing Cashback credit up to $50 again, but only for a very limited time. The DROID X should be a pretty good pick up after Bing CB....
