On 2.1 you can't place apps to sd unless you have rooted your phone and down loaded the app from the market. You can on froyo though.

If you do a factory reset then you will want to keep your data, backing up to sd card allows this. It will not put your apps on sd freeing up internal memory though.

    Hope that helps

Definitely a newbie here, only had my Desire for two weeks, however using ES File Explorer on Andriod 2.1 it would appear that all my Apps have been backed up to sd.
Here in Australia our provider ( Telstra ) is unlikely to provide us with 2.2 in the immediate future. Is it possible to uninstall the apps from the ROM and then run them directly from the sd backup ( thereby freeing up ROM)?

I have Xperia X10i with 2.1. I have installed Z4Root and its rooted through it. How can I move all my apps to SD card. I really need my phone memory to be freedup as many apps like angry birds, tom cat, etc are above 14 meg. I am running short of space.

Please let me know if there are any other ways to get the apps moved to SD Card.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have a Samsung galaxy apollo (GT-i5801) which is android 2.1 since my country is unlikely to have 2.2 upgrade in the near future :/. I have rooted my sd card and am desperately looking for a App 2 SD, or similar functionality app to install. Market doesn't allow installation since it says its incompatible (reqs 2.2), and I can't find a suitable .apk on the net either. Can anyone help? :D

You realise that this is the Desire forum, right?

2.1 doesn't support that function. No app will change that. Go to the root forum of your device as there will probably be a custom Rom with an a2sd script that if you partition your sd card, will automatically move apps to the partition
