To get the most out of your Incredible's battery, you have to bump charge. To bump charge (I think) you charge your battery until the light turns green, then turn your phone off, and wait until the light turns green again. I think this is a hassle, especially when I want my phone ready to go when I wake up (and I don't have time to bump charge).

I was thinking that an app could be made to automatically bump charge the phone. All the app would do is turn the phone off once the battery initially charges to 100%, so the phone would keep charging once off, and get a real 100% charge.

I am not sure if an app like this could be made, but it would be useful! The only problem I see is: after bump charging does your phone loose charge for every second it is plugged in, or does it stay at the true 100% until it is unplugged? If it loses charge while plugged in after bump charging, then this wouldn't work.

If there is already an app for this, what is it called? Thanks! :)

If the phone is off, it loses no charge (since there's nothing draining it). If it's on, it's running off battery power and not the wall (once the light has turned green). So, it's like it unplugs itself when it goes green. It completely shuts off current flow into the phone.

The issue with your app is what happens after the phone is done bump charging? Does it just sit there off? It can't be turned on automatically, since no apps are running to turn it on. Since the Incredible takes under two hours to charge, depending on the charger and battery, you might as well just turn it off when you go to bed.

Well for bump charging, after it is done charging 100% while on, if you turn off the phone, and wait until the light turns green again, it will be a true 100% (not roughly a 90% charge like a normal charge does). So, all you would need is an app to automatically shut the phone off. Then, when you wake up and turn on your phone, you will be good to go!

Right... but why not just turn it off when you go to bed and let it hit 100% in the first place?

(BTW, it's not that it's not hitting 100% while on. It's that it hits 100% then switches back to battery power.)

Wait, are you saying shutting my phone off and charging it all the way has the same effect as bump charging?

This is not true. If you charge it while on until green and IMMEDIATELY turn it off it will continue to charge about 20-30 minutes. It does not FULLY charge while on...ever. So, not even giving it a chance to switch to battery after charging it still is not 100%.

FWIW I just did this in my office this morning.

after charging while off, it still dropps a little bit after you turn it on, for example, I am now at 97% after like 5 minutes

The problem with the idea is that there are no apps that can shut down an Android phone that I'm aware of. I've seen some that will reboot your phone, but none that will shut it down entirely. You could do this with Tasker though if a shut down app or script did exist.

We've had this discussion several times on here. Mine, and several other Incredibles I've tested, does not behave as yours. When the light goes green, if you unplug it or turn it off, it will still be green (as long as you do it quickly aka within 5 seconds or so).

Regardless, the primary issue is that when the Inc reaches full charge it stops drawing from the external power source and goes back to battery power.
