Instead of physically connecting the DI to my computer through USB....I figure I should be able to perform any functions via Wi-Fi.

Is there a free app for this. In short, I just wanna be able to transfer any/all files to/from the DI over Wi-Fi. Any app?

Most excellent. Don't have my DI yet but just preparing my App list so I won't have to later. This looks ideal. THANKS

Just out of curiosity, what file transfer speeds do you guys get over wireless LAN? The DI has to be the limiting factor for speed here I am assuming....not the Wireless LAN network or PC.

Wondering if it is slower than say.....a PC to PC file transfer over same Wireless LAN network?

You might also want to check the dropbox thread ... The Estrongs explorer is great for LAN access; but the dropbox method can accomplish the same thing and is simpler for me if I am just moving a file or two.

The Estrong lan access seems pretty quick - but I haven't tried to time it. I moved 10 or 12 pictures very quickly ...

I can't seem to copy from the card to the LAN, but I can from the LAN to the card. Anyone else have this issue with EStrong File Explorer?

Is this a limitation with the app, or the phone? It's cool to transfer to the phone from the LAN, but I would like to go from the card to the LAN, such as archiving backups from MyBackup, and other things written to the card, such as .kml files and pics/vids/music.

I figured out why it wasn't working...

I had to check "Allow Network Users to modify my files" and it works both ways now.

forgive my ignorance, but what is the significance of this? is it able to transfer songs, pics, documents, etc. from your pc to your phone and vice versa wirelessly? If so, then I am interested since my comp sucks and i can't do it through connecting my phone via usb (my comps really messed up) and this would completely take away the need to. Thanks!

i was laughed at a few days ago when i said i transferred music via wifi instead of the USB cable. it's waaaay more convenient than hooking up a cable and stuff though. i did it the same way on my moto droid.

"Websharing" is also nice, has a small gui that shows u/d speeds. pw protected so no one can access it if they dont know the pw....

on the whole usb vs wireless.... at work i have a cable so its easier, but at home, i dont want to run around looking for cable so wifi is definitely the way to go :)

Dropbox is the best way to transfer files between your desktop and your android and Apple devices I've found.

Websharing costs $$. $3 isn't much....but money is money. Estrongs is free.

Also, I noticed some people use programs that allow access to your files (music, pics, movies, etc) over the internet. I think that is great and all.....but inherently slower. Now you must rely on your internet connection for transfers instead of your Local WiFi speed. Of course, these people are able to access their files outside of their WiFi network. Tradeoff.

Honestly, I just want to avoid having to sit at my computer or physically plug my phone in to upload or download files

You have to tap new, then scan. It will look for your network devices. Locate your pc and access the shared folder where the pic is at. Long press the pic and you should see a dropdown. Choose copy. It will paste it to the clipboard. Go back to local, which I believe is your SD card by default. Long press your picture folder and hit paste from the dropdown. Might not be exactly that, but I know I'm close.

Are you guys able to get ES Explorer transfers to work on Windows 7? I always get username/password errors.
