It is true that when Apple does something, it does it well...

Lets get one thing straight this is not meant to take away from anyone who plans to get the iPhone 4, but someone has to point out its flaws. After all, Jobs would never do such a thing. So how can such a great device still crumble to Android? Its all about the limitations Apples biggest issue.

    1) FaceTime

From Apple – “People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With the tap of a button, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi. No other phone makes staying in touch this much fun.”

Apple is right about one thing, we have been dreaming about this for decades. However, Apple cant take credit for this one. The HTC Evo 4g has accomplished this before Apple. Not only have they accomplished it first but wi-fi is not a necessity in order to make a call. Thats right, 3G is more than enough to hand its users a decent video quality call. This gives the Evo 4G’s video calling a more practical edge over the iPhone 4. The Evo 4G also works with Skype.

    2) Retina Display

Apple says- “Thanks to the Retina display, everything you see and do on iPhone 4 looks amazing. Text in books, web pages, and email is crisp at any size. Images in movies and photos are stunning at almost any angle. That’s because the Retina display’s pixel density is so high, your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels.”

From what we have seen so far, the display on the iPhone 4 is gorgeous. However, who has been complaining? This is not to say that innovation isn’t good because it is. How about innovation on a larger scale? Why couldn’t they make the screen a little larger for extended comfort when watching those soon to be Netflix videos? Apple has always been the one to make their users compromise. This time its by having the same size screen you’ve always had that just looks better. Why cant iPhone users have a bigger screen AND higher resolution? While the larger Android screens may or may not compare to that of the iPhone 4, its not a factor for me. Ive never really cared that my cable was a little fuzzy, i just wanted to see the whole picture.

    3) Multitasking

Apple says- “Now you can run your favorite third-party apps — and switch between them instantly — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.* This smarter approach to multitasking is available only on iPhone.”

Brilliant Apple! Now, how do i stop it? Thats the one question that has been nagging me since the combination of the WWDC and AT&T’s plan changes. Apple never discussed how one can quit multitasking. With apps running and consuming data in the background on AT&T’s new plans? That spells danger and hard earned money. Android has app killers. Also, Android runs on networks with unlimited data plans. So even if you wanted to multi task your phone to death (crash) you don’t have to worry about over charges. I pray for the consumers of tomorrow that the iPhone will.

    4) Camera

Apple says- “Never miss a photo opportunity. The 5-megapixel camera built into iPhone 4 captures amazingly detailed images. A built-in LED flash illuminates low-light scenes. And the 5x digital zoom gets you closer to the action. You can even shoot self-portraits with the front camera.”

HTC Evo 4G. The only difference is that it has an 8 mega pixel camera. Android has always had zoom. We also have the low light for video shooting. Self-portraits are currently available while iPhone 4 isn’t.

    5) Folders

Apple says- “Make room for more apps. Thanks to the App Store, you can choose from over 200,000 apps and games. But these apps can fill your Home screens pretty quickly. That’s where the new Folders feature comes in. It gives you an easy way to keep your apps organized and declutter your Home screens. And you can launch your favorite apps with a couple of taps.”

Since the G1 first existed this was possible but don’t think for a second that iPhone 4 has rived Android here. They got the folder thing down packed but don’t forget about the live folders. A live folder is a folder that automatically updates itself with information. For example if you have a Facebook address folder with the ever changing information from Facebook that folder will automatically update any information changed from Facebook right on your home screen.

    6) Home Screen

Apple says- “Personalize your Home screen. You can change the background wallpaper on both your Lock screen and your Home screen. Choose from a variety of backgrounds included with your iPhone or select any picture from your library. It’s a great way to make iPhone uniquely yours.”

Holy America Batman! Apple just became less communistic!
Wallpapers….nice. Not only has Android accomplished this since the G1, we now have 3D wallpapers. Wallpapers that react with your touch. Apple likes to play as if its ‘innovating’ in every area that it operates in when its a big fat lie. They do a lot of great innovations but not in everything they do. There just play catch up.

Don’t forget about widgets! Widgets are not available for iPhone. Widgets are apps that are ran directly on the home screen for complete customization and usage.

    7) Phone

Apple says – “Tap (or speak) to call.
To make a call on iPhone, tap a name or number. That’s it. You can tap to call from just about anywhere: a name in your contacts list, a number on a website or text message, even a phone number on a map listing. Voice Control lets you speak a name or number to make a call. And you can switch between calls, merge calls, or add up to five callers with a tap”

Android does this. I’m actually getting tired of saying that. Its slowly becoming a clich

Other than widgets, the iPhone hardware/software is superior. Just like to EVO, to really 'customize' the device (ie roms, etc) you need to root the iPhone.

Now, then network, with is 70% of the phone, is heavily weighted in Sprint's favor. Thus, I have nan EVO. With the silly build quality issues I've been having, I'll probably be switching to the Galaxy Pro when it drops.

Umm superior? How so? Their OS is limited at best. Limited piss poor excuse for multitasking, just now getting things available on dumbphones 10 years ago. No browser replacements, no sms replacements, none of that. Hardware JUST caught up to what we've had for nearly 6 months already... 2 lifetimes in the tech world. You don't need to root to customize, what are you smoking? Full home replacements don't need root. Live folders don't need root. Widgets don't need root. Live wallpapers don't need root. You can customize plenty without root. Root just adds MORE customization which is NOT available on iPhone.

hmm, the most popular sms app for android is handcent, what does it copy, oh yeah, iPhone.

    Opera Browser on iPhone.
Multitasking does what it needs to on the iPhone.
Live wallpapaers get disabled to save battery life on EVO.

    Widgets are awesome on Android.

Honestly, I'm not an iPhone fanboy, but when I use even my iPod Touch, its just smoother and more responsive than my EVO.

Apple vs HTC Evo 4G - A Few Points Worth Mentioning

    Why? Seriously - who cares?

Here's how everything else does not compare:

    1. Sprint network, Sprint unlimited data, Sprint pricing.

    2. EVO -> biggest, baddest, best phone on Sprint network.

    All done.

Everyone else, eat your heart out.

Any other discussion avoids what really counts.

And? So what if handcent mimics the iPhone. Fact is, we have the choice. I prefer stock. I don't like chat bubbles, they are annoying. But thing is, it's how *I* like it. Try that on an iPhone.

    - Same statement applies to Live Wallpapers. We have the option to use them, or not. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean others don't.

Multitasking does NOT do what it needs to on iPhone. It only does what Steve Jobs says it can do. Not what YOU want it to do. BIG difference.

The EVO is botched due to the 30FPS cap. I'm a bit peeved with HTC about that one, didn't have that issue on the Droid Incredible, or Nexus one. which as of right now seems like a better example.

Your friend makes some good points, but you're kinda preaching to the choir here.

It only copies the iphone if you have the "iphone" options selected. I actually have been using the "Android" format ever since I downloaded it. I also have it heavily customized so that my background has a pictures on the thread screen and also the actual texting screen. Every message I send is in Blue shade with Silver letters (think Lions colors) while messages that are from others are in White shade with Dark blue letters (think Patriot colors)

I have an iphone 2G and the text message app looks plain ol regular next to my Samsung Moment's customized handcent app. Its no contest, my eyes are visually pleased every time I enter into the handcent app :p

The biggest problem I have with HTC is that they are schizophrenic. Why is it necessary to build so many gol darn phone models? HTC keeps throwing unique phones out there as if they can't keep their mind on any one thing. Please, HTC, you don't have to follow Apple and only issue one new phone every year or so, but why can't you make a good phone and then improve upon it?

I cannot imagine the wasted resources it must take to constantly rewrite the phone every month or so. I mean, really, HTC has the Hero, the Incredible, the Evo, the Desire, and it goes on. Quality control would be so much easier if a new model wasn't arriving every month or two.

Just stick with a top of the line phone and improve it every six months or so. Geez.

^now imagine if HTC put all their energies into 3 devices or so and provided it for all carriers, now that would be something worth having.

The few things the iPhone does, it does well. No doubt about it. Even though many may agree that the UI is dumbed down, one cannot argue that it is a seemless experience.

I like to customize, explore, take apart and even break it in the process if I want to. I don't need a leash so that I don't go beyond their predefined boundaries.

I agree that the IOS more than likely runs smoother and is a seamless experience but I prefer more control over the os than a tightly controlled os.
I'm not a novice and I can learn how to work something new.
The iPhone is an awesome device but for me the android OS has more advantages. The hardware specs and features are debatable for the most part.

Yeah, I read an artilce once where they called HTC the Tao bell of the phone world. They have a set amount of ingredients, and they just mix and match to make a ton of variety. Ie Evo and the hd2.

One of the more ignorant things I have read on this forum. Hands down Android is the superior OS, particularly in the area of customization. It's not even close and rooting isn't necessary for this intrinsic property. It's enough to satisfy this WinMo user, and nothing has yet topped that level of customization.

There are several known problems with the Iphone 4, both of design/hardware nature. Just holding the phone is an issue to go along with dropped calls, and several other problems that suggest it being far from superior than the EVO.

    eww, Evo like Taco Bell?

    o_O

hah but seriously, provider is one thing ... no qualms with Sprint, feel fortunate to be able to grab a 4G signal at home. know some people with iPhones and they love em, naturally, but they almost all hate AT&T with a passion. figures.

if Sprint, for some ungodly reason, were to offer the iPhone I probably would think about it ... for a minute.

    but I'm fast becoming a loyal Adroid-ian (?_?)
