Help apps aren't actually updating

The other day, when google maps 5 came out, my phone automatically updated it. When I went into the app, it didn't appear any different than before. The about page stated that it was version 5, but I don't seem to have literally any of the new features. Caching, 3D buildings, a compass, the gestures; none of it is there. Yet the app says it is version 5.0.
On a related note, Gmail doesn't seem to have any support for the priority inbox, which it apparently should have...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to New York, enter 3D mode (swipe two fingers downward) and zoom right in. Can you see any 3D buildings now?

i think there are some. but the thing is i can't use any gestures. I know exactly what's -supposed- to happen. but my google maps is basically the same. I can't tilt, or rotate, i have no compass. And the city I live in is supposed to have 3D buildings, and they aren't there.

Try clearing the cache for the maps and re-launch it. If that did not work you can uninstall it and install it again from the market.

Okay, 3D buildings have shown up. But I haven't seen a compass, and no gestures. Which may just be OS limitations. Still.. it's bothersome.
