I thought it might be useful to create a thread to suggest apps in.
The nature of the forums will determine if this is a good idea
or not by whether it gets stickied or buried. I'm new to Android
and we're all new to the Captivate (sans Galaxy S owners).

I suggest that we keep to 4 simple posting guidelines to make
this thread as useful as possible. You can add material, but
give us these as a minimum guideline. If you can, update your
post if your experience changes after you post.

    1. 1 app per post. The idea is to give a single post that gives at least
a basic review of a given app. Not a 10 thread "discussion"..:) just a
single post. Please dont repeat app reviews. We can start a thread
    for individual apps.

    2.
Please only review apps you have personally installed and used a bit.
Not "some guy you know", not "this friend of mine", not even "I knew
this alien once who...". Personal experience, with the app, on this
    phone only..please...

    3.
Please avoid commenting on other posts. By definition, this isnt a
"right or wrong" thread and if the posting rules are followed, at least
1 person had those actual, literal results.

    4. If you can give a very brief description of what type of user
you are (heavy, lite, etc) and what kind of environment you're
in most of the time (Inside office, driving, etc), this will help others
adjust your experiences based on their environment and usage.

    Thanks

    Application:

    Where's My Droid

    Purpose:
Locate your phone via max volume ring (even if the phone is set to silent).
Locate your phone via GPS locator.

    From: Market
    Cost: Free

My primary environments: Office and Home, ie. Indoors

Usage: Heavy User.. Its a new toy.. :D

    *Ringing

The 1st function of the application allows you to set a phrase
(set mine to "Ring for Daddy") you can SMS text to the phone that
will force the phone to turn the volume to max and ring loudly,
regardless of volume setting/Silent mode. The length of time it
will ring is definable, from 30 secs to 5 mins.

    *GPS
The 2nd function of the application allows you to set a phrase (set mine to
"GPS for Daddy") you can SMS text to the phone that will force the phone
to GPS locate itself and text the location back to you.

    Review:
The ringing function is very handy for me. I tend to leave my phone
laying around somewhere at my home. Since I dont have a carrying
case at the moment, I also tend to set it down at random places
in my office space/NOC. A preset text on the wife's phone and I'm 10
secs from locating my phone, anywhere in my townhouse. A quick
text from a co-worker's phone and mine is ringing. Used this twice
    in 3 days actually.

The GPS function is debatably useful. It requires that the GPS is on,
draining battery, I believe. The other big issue, for me at least, is most
of the time, if I couldnt locate the phone by ringing, it'll be inside one
of a few buildings, all on 1 campus.
Since the GPS cant see the sats from inside and cell tower triangulation
isnt useful enough to actually find your phone inside the same building,
but on a different floor its not esp. useful to me. If the phone is stolen
or left at a store/friends house you could ping this a couple times and
likely pinpoint the device to within 60m while inside a building and thats
likely good enough to locate the right area at least.

I've used it for 3 days now and I'm inside mostly. For me, its a keeper
for the ringer locate function. Its already been handy for me. If my
phone gets ganked, I can send the GPS message a few times and maybe
    get lucky.

There's already an entire sub-forum for this. As the info's not Captivate-specific, I'd suggest posting in that forum instead.

Doh.. will repost the review there and let this die..

Didnt notice that forum. My goal was to get reviews of apps
and how they run on the captivate. My review is based on my
experience using that app on this phone.
