Are the Galaxy Tabs good tablets?

I'm in the market for an Android tablet. I'm considering getting a Galaxy Tab, but I'm not sure if the investment is worth it.

My Galaxy Tab has replaced my iPad and gets better battery life, but if you want something comparable to the iPad fourth generation, with a decent competition with Apple's retina display, I highly recommended spending the extra green on the Nexus 10. Nexus always gets the most recent upgrades first, too

I don't have a Galaxy tab, but I use a Galaxy S model phone. If you're coming from Apple products, Samsung will probably feel plasticy. They are very durable. I've dropped my phone a few times without more than a ding in the casing. Updates took forever, but mine were also going through AT&T. TouchWiz will be a matter of preference. If you don't like it you there are many alternative launchers on the Play Store.
