Just wondering how many people are planning to root their phones.

    Why or why not?

Maybe... I want to replace the add a widget button on the launcher with a dedicated camera button.

Probably. I've rooted my G1 and my Droid currently. So most likely, yes lol.

I'm sure I will down the road, but this will be my first time with android so I'll be staying stock for a bit to get a feel. I've only messed with a droid and an eris briefly at a VZW store.

Has 2.1 been rooted on any android phones yet?

Probably. Along with adding a camera instead of the add a widget button, I need (as in it would be tremendously helpful for business) the wifi hotspot functionality. Also, other minor tweaks such as MobileDefense being built into the ROM. Maybe a couple of other things. I can program, and am planning on introducing myself to the android SDK/general ROM structure this summer, so I think I may make this myself.

Uh, this question really depends on how long it will take for people to get root access. It isn't like you can always do it right out of the box, look at how long the Eris took.

    Unless I'm missing something?

Nexus was rooted before it was even released. It just depends on the phone and I'd expect something similar to happen to the Incredible.

After seeing what people can do with their Nexuses, theres no way I wouldnt root. The customization you get with root and a solid mod are ridiculous.

Of course. I usually give it a week or so after buying a new gadget before I "try to break it" as my wife likes to say.

I'm an engineer. If it still works, it doesn't have enough features. ;)

Of course. It'll be a while and ROMs might be slow to come out, but of course!

What kind of question is that...ABSOLUTELY! I felt like my Droid was Lou Ferrigno wearing an extra small t-shirt until i let him out and freed him by rooting and running a custom ROM. Now my Droid says "DROID SMASH" to everything.

No at first - just to see what can be offered. Down the road, yes.

I just read what rooting is. I voted no because this is my first smart phone so I think I'll be happy to just have that. :)

Definately not at first. This is going to be my first smartphone so I'll probably be pretty satisfied. Now, later on if I see there's some great benefit to rooting it, I might give it a try.

It's not going to be easy to root in the same way as others. HTC has changed some stuff around. Rooting is possible but not actually doing anything with it. folders are protected differently it seems.

What's the fun in not rooting? With root it will do everything an unrooted phone can do plus all the things a rooted phone can do- so... yeah.... I'll be rooting as soon as possible.
