ASTRO (in the MarketPlace) -- I think this is a great app .. its predicessor was Bender ... File manager, txt and html Viewer and the Lastest ...the apps reads your catalog of installed aps and makes a backup of the x.apk into a backup folder on the SDCARD ... I have tried a restore yet .... but I would assume that APSInstaller could use the these apks or "ASTRO" make call an apk installer...

I will report back once I have removed an app and tried to reinstall from ASTRO's backup ....

I uninstalled app "BucketUpload" ... then I used ASTRO to reinstall the app from the backup on my SDCard ... everything went smoothly .... very nice ... and no network connect time needed to download the app ...

I have been wanting to do a factory data reset to see how much memory I get back. I have installed ASTRO and backed up my apps. What else do I have to do to get my apps back after I do the the reset

Just re-run Astro and select the backup tab and restore each app ... be careful not to remove APKInstaller ... and ASTRO as well as some of the other Apps that came installed unless you plan on using the market... (the originals will probably be there and restored by the Factory reset) ...
    Good Luck ...

Actually, I love Astro because it allows you to send any file as an attachment (not just a pic of your cat and an mp3).

I recently faced a problem using Astro. When I tried to back up some apps, it gave me two conflicting messages - a dialog popped up saying that there was a problem saving the .apk files to the backup folder, and then a small notification reporting a successful backup. I wonder if this is a bug...

I restored my apps using astro after a factory reset, now many of my apps don't show up in the market downloads section. Will these files ever get updated if the don't show up in downloads?

I just used Astro to restore my backed up apps onto a new phone and had the same question as above. Nothings really showing up in Market does this mean that I will not recieve updates? Thanks.

    Hi There

I am not a user of the Android Market App so I will comment on what I do use, AppBrain. I just re-installed an application using Astro. AppBrain picked it up as a new app on my Desire (running FroYo) and added it to my list of apps to be updated.

So I can confidently say that if you are using AppBrain (highly recommended) and you re-install an app using Astro and/or its backups, it WILL get updated.

    Hope this helps. :)

This may seem like a dumb question, but how does one go about backing up apps with astro? I have been looking, but cannot seem to figure it out.

    nevermind.....found it. duh!

I uninstalled Astro months ago b/c it was posted over and over that when restoring backed up apps, they would no longer be recognized/updated in the market due to a broken market link. Not sure if that's still the case so take it with as many grains of salt as it deserves.

As I have mentioned previously, this is not the case when using AppBrain.

I can CONFIRM that astro has fixed this problem. To test I backed up my apps with Astro, removed Acast, which was in my Android Market downloads section, checked that it was gone from Android Marketplace, restored the app, and then confirmed it showed back up under My App in the Android Market place.

Hey i was wondering... If you do a factory reset, doesn't that remove everything on the phone and internal sd card which will obviously also delete the backed up apk file? or does the factory reset only resets the phone memory?

A factory reset (hard reset) won't touch your SD card.

In Astro, I don't see the SD card listed.

"external1" is listed as having 32.00K, and there's a directory in it called: "lost.dir"

"sdcard" is listed as having 4.00K, but contained in THAT is all my native and app files from my XOOM.

Any suggestions? The SD card shows up within XOOM setup... but not in Astro.

Sorry for bringing back a dead thread guys. I'm getting ready to move from my Incredible over to a GNex today. When you do an app backup in Astro, does it save the current data in your apps? Example, I'd like to carry over where I am in Angry Birds. If I backup my apps with Astro, will it just install Angry Birds fresh, or will my current state in the game be there as well?

    Thanks!

No, it will not. You have to be rooted in order to backup app data. If you are rooted you can use apps like MyBackup Pro or Titanium Backup to save app data.
