On my voyager, I have the extended warranty and insurance through Verizon's Asurion insurance.

I think its $1.99 for the extended warrenty and $6.00 for the
Asurion Insurance for lost, stolen, damage coverage for a total of $7.99/month.

I checked with my insurance agent, in my case, State Farm, and "Personal Article" coverage, that covers lost, stolen, damage, even by stupidity costs $25/year.

So, this time, when I get the droid, I plan to get the extended warrenty for $1.99/month, and the lost/stolen/stupidity insurance through State Farm for $25/Year.

    Any other thoughts??

Isn't that still considered part of your home owners insurance? I would never make a home owners insurance claim over a phone.

Apparently now, I asked that very question to my State Farm agent, and he said, home owners covers peril like lightning, theft from the home, fire, etc, and homeowner has a $500 deductible....

that lost/stolen/damage is a separate named policy. Covers pretty much everything for $25/year with no deductible, sounds better than Aurion's $6/month with a $50 deductible, so I think I'm going to give the State Farm one a try and just get the $1.99/month extended warranty from Verizon.

viI would check that too. An insurance claim against Home Owner's over a $200 phone is ridiculous and costly. I would look to 3rd party insurance carriers. That may be more accurate as a separate policy for individual electronics. I know they have separate policies for laptops.

SquareTrade is $76.80 for 2 years. This is $116 less than VZW. Plus, VZW has a $50 deductible which makes this a $166 savings.

My choice is.... I will stick with Asurion. I have had friends who have gotten their phone covered through their own insurance company and talk about a long process just to get your phone replaced. No thanks, do not want that headache I will pay the deductible and have my replacement phone shipped overnight to me. Nice post though it is a very good question.

Thats a good point, I just replied to my agent asking what the claim process is, if it's lengthy at all, I may opt to pay more for the Asurion too, just like you said, ease and speed of claim.

But, yeah, thought it was worth asking people's thoughts....

Asurion sucks and I had nothing but trouble with them when my old Motorola Q broke. It took 7 weeks to finally get them to send me a refurb, and with the $50 deductible it is pricey. Square Trade is awesome though, they actually sent me a check for $900 when my laptop got stolen that I had gotten from eBay.

See, there's my concern. One is happy with his over-night handling of issue.

    This one took 7 weeks???

Anyone else use Asurion?? what was your experience??

My experiences with Asurion have always been good. I've actually never had to have them send me a phone, I've always just walked into a Verizon corporate store, said my phone was lost or broken and walked out with a new one on the spot. But, it's also been more than a year since I've had to do that and the policies have most likely changed.

It wasn't that it took 7 weeks to ship it, but they kept giving me the run-a-round. When they finally did ship it I got it in 3 days.

I forgot about Square Trade. Yes they actually do work pretty good. Is Square Trade available for items that were purchased outside of Ebay though? I still would not consider going through your own insurance agent. I myself have never had any problems with Asurion, but as in everything it is not for everyone.

Thats just about as bad, don't want any run-around. I'll be interested to see the reply from my State Farm agent on how fast they process such a request.

Asurion has always been next day for me. No hassle, no paperwork to fill out, just a 10 minute phone call with a credit card to pay deductible.

VZW went up on enhanced devices (any smart phone or web browsing phone) bought after May the deductible is $80 now instead of $50. :(

I plan to check up on personal articles. I am in video production and had a $250/yr business policy with equipment coverage. I had a major accident and they sent a check within 3 days to replace $15,000 worth of damaged equipment. All they required was a damaged equipment list. Best $250 I ever spent. I would think personal articles would be similar. Asurian is a rip.

I own a photography business, and have a business policy as well. There is still a deductible which applies to a business loss like there is for a homeowner's claim. And... I'd prefer to have a claim free policy if it came down to something like having a phone issue. I'll be likely looking to SquareTrade, the coupons only make it sweeter. Too bad the 30% off one expired yesterday! I didn't even think of 3rd party warranties till reading this thread. You can even put in a future purchase price on SquareTrade. So the 30% off could've been made effective on 11/6.

BTW - $250 year for $15k in equipment? Who is your underwriter? Or do you not have Liability? Mine is double that $12k in gear. But I have a $1/$2 million dollar liability policy. Those prices are on par for a non-business written policy when I shopped.

I always get the Extended warranty & insurance, but have never needed to go through the claim process. I usually take the early (yearly) upgrade, so I'm covered under warranty. If you go to the store, they will replace the device right there for $50.00 (or whatever you deductible is).

If it is considered an "advanced" device the deductable will be $85.00 though.

Asurion is a great company. Filing a claim and getting your phone the next day couldn't be easier. My last claim I did online and never spoke to an actual person and still received my replacement the next day.

I have thought about SquareTrade since it's cheaper but I noticed they wouldn't cover cell phone loss whereas Asurion does.

My agent said, they just need a VISA receipt or a copy of a check, and I presume he'd cut me a check right there on the spot.

So, I would think I'd just take the phone to my VZ store, if its a warranty covered issue, let VZ replace it, if its not a warranty defect, then it must be damage of some kind, so I'll put the replacement on my VISA, then head to my agent's office and have them cut me the check on the spot. At least that's how I hope it would go, but really, I hope I never have to find out!!

Just be careful about the actual coverage you get if you use non-VZW insurance. VZW fixes/replaces the phone. If you go outside and paid $99 for the Droid 'cause of NE2 and rebate, and your insurance coverage is for what you paid, they'll give you $99 and you won't be able to get a new phone.
