I wonder whether it is possible to attach a 60GB SSD with the OTG and read/write from it.

Sure, you just need a USB enclosure or a USB to SATA adapter.

... and you need to root your N7 and run Stickmount.

Thanks guys. Do you think it needs an enclosure with it's own power or will it run with an unpowered enclosure - the SSDs need very little electricity (like 0.11 Watts). I even have one SSD to which I can attach a USB cable directly (with a mini-USB plug).

Has Stickmount been updated for 4.2? The update broke that capability.

All 2.5" drives will run off USB only. So any 2.5" USB enclosure will work and require no external power.

    Very good. Thanks.

Now we'll have to see what they do with Stickmount.

pre 4.2 I had attached an external 2.5 drive to my rooted N7. No external power needed.
Not working now. Will need a stickmount update.

Understand, thanks. Are there any predictions on when the update will be available.

If you want to read only from the SSD, you can use Nexus Media Importer

Thanks for the hint. But I would like to read and write to the SSD.

If you want read/write currently the only way is rooting + stickmount (Or mount it manually), Stick mount was updated couple of days ago, so you should be good to go now.
