To the micro SD memory card or direct to device? I did a 1 GB video file and it took a little over 1 minute to device, 5 minutes to class 4 micro SD.

I just tested a 660 MB worth of music and it took about 1:30 seconds to copy over. About 4 minutes to class 4 micro SD.

I plug mine into a USB 3 port. It's probably your PC that is causing the problem.

the device wants to be read as a usb 1.1 device, samsung blames your pc. they refuse to acknowledge the issue. i can plug usb 2 devices all day into my notebook but as soon as i plug in my tab 2 it says its a usb 1.1 device

what is the computer you are plugging into? operating system? 64/32?

go into your device manager and what is your usb controller. or better yet take a screen shot of your device manager with the usb tree open

Interesting! I too have had terrible experience with attempting to transfer files to and from the tablet when connected to the PC via the USB cable. I too have spoken with Samsung support via their text chat feature on their web site. The last word I received was that a pending driver release will resolve the issue. I saved the conversation with the tech. I will go find the file and repost with some highlights.

note - It may be more ICS to blame as opposed to Samsung.

My temporary work around - I use the MicroSD card, remove it from the tablet, insert into the card reader on my PC and transfer directly to the card.

When I connect the Galaxy Tab 2 running ICS I am presented with two options in the PC dialog under Microsoft Windows XP; Media device (MTP) or Camera (PTP) mode.

Media device (MTP) fails to install the driver every time. This is a common issue well documented (Google search supports assertion).

PTP results in a successful connection, however, I can only transfer from the tablet to the PC and the transfer rate is slow.

According to what I have read, traditional USB connectivity is gone on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a decision made by the folks at Google (dumb move Google developers.) I am “old school” and what I am looking for when I connect a USB storage device (including an Android phone or tablet) is for it to appear as a drive letter in windows with a good solid USB 2.0 connection.

I have read that MTP is only possible if the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player is installed on the PC (in XP) but this is already installed if you have Windows 7 for example. I am using XP and I refuse to install Windows Media Player for reasons I will not disclose, however, I am strictly opposed to Microsoft Spy and Controlware.

I contacted Samsung support via text chat support as I mentioned in a previous post on this tread. I will share that will you in my next post.

Chat Information Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
Stuart: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?
Visitor: I simply would like to connect tablet to pc via usb cable, see tablet appear as drive letter, copy files to tablet. After connecting tablet, xp pc tries to install mtp and fails.
Visitor: I should be able to achieve a USB 2.0 connection for direct file transfer, drive to drive.
    Stuart: I understand your concern.
Stuart: I am sorry as of now the drivers are not available for the Tab you are referring to.
Stuart: I recommend you to install the USB drivers from the Samsung Website once they are uploaded.
Visitor: your statemet is confusing, you say there are no drivers, but i should install said drivers that do not exist
Stuart: I mean to say that , you can download the drivers once they are Uploaded in the Samsung website.
Stuart: I can assure you that once the drivers are released you can transfer any files through MTP.
Stuart: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Visitor: Connecting mobile devices to a PC via USB and copy files is very very and I stress very standard stuff
Visitor: I do it with a blackberry for example
Stuart: I will surely be escalating the issue to the concerned department.
Visitor: I have connected older android phones to my pc and transfered files before
Stuart: All the Samsung Tabs can do it but as the drivers for the USB has not yet been released which is the cause for the issue.
Visitor: What is an ETA for release? date?
Stuart: I will be right with you.
Stuart: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Stuart: Your patience will be appreciated till the drivers are release.
    Visitor: eta of release date?
Stuart: I am sorry , I cannot be specific about the date but it may take at least 15 days for the process.

I tried this but it just won't install drivers for my tab. Is Windows XP too old an operating system? Samsung Kies sucks as well. It took almost 25-30 mins to transfer 2 600 MB files over Wi-Fi.

    I just can't connect with cable!!! :(

XP is showing its age big time. The not installing drivers could be XP issue. The best advice I could give is to make sure Windows xp is up to date. Lotta problems can be fixed with updates when it comes to XP.

You all are over looking the problem. It's not a Windows or Galaxy Tab 2 issue.

it is a .Net Framework issue get the latest framework 4 which can be installed using kies. Just install then remove kies. leaving media player 11 n .Net Framework 4 intact. Hope that helps. Then once you connect your tab 2 it will be a hard drive not a camera. ;) JC

I am having a problem downloading apps from Google Play but dowloading from Samsung Apps works perfectly. When choosing to download from Play, the screen advises that download in progress but never outputs or produces anything. I have tried clearing cache and it does not seem to help. Please help. Apologies, I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
