Backing up my phone contacts

You've hopefully at least got your Google account info entered in. Your place of purchase should have set that up for you. Once that's done, go to Settings -> Data Synchronization -> Google. Check whichever things you want sync'd. Keep in mind that if you add any Contacts to the phone, you'll want to make the "Google" and not "Phone" if you want to sync them back to Google.

FYI, this is in the book your phone comes with. There's a lot to this phone and the manual does a good job of going over a lot of it. :)

Also you can control which Groups are sync'd in the People app. Go to the Group section and hit "Menu -> Sync". There's currently either a bug or it's badly designed and it will not sync the premade Google Groups "Friends", "Family", and "Coworkers". You'll have to make your own groups with a different name to get those to sync.
