The screen is off, with the phone left in standby mode.
Is it normal for it to die that fast, without use?

Not unless you've either got too many things updating in the background, syncing, etc, or one app is in a sync loop, such as facebook.

Of course, you're not saying how long it took for the battery to drain to 50%. Mine takes about 8 hours, with it ending up at the end of the day at about 35% with moderate usage through the day.

I'd also make sure GPS was off, unless needed.

Hopefully your device or battery is not defective.

It was just over night, and not a thing was running. Gps was not on, no
wifi or bluetooth either. I just did a factory reset so we'll see how it
    drains now.

BTW, do you have auto-Sync for apps on or off??

I never could stand autosync, and leave it off so that I can control the apps myself when needed.

Overnight, even with it asleep, will still chew up the battery.. 50% over many hours does not sound too bad.. but you can cut it down a bit with battery saving measures.

Also, you might want to make sure your battery meter is giving you a fairly accurate idea, instead of being way off. Allowing the device to drain to as close to 0% (which can't happen) as possible, then charging to 100%, can help calibrate it to the battery.

That should not be done too often with a Lithium-Ion battery, in my opinion (there is disagreement among experts about doing that).

50% threw up flags for me, because my D1 would maybe be at 90 to 85%
leaving it on standby all night. I had auto-sync on, all the time also. I am
going to try to set it up as close to my D1 as I can get, and see how
that works. IMO, it should not die faster then a D1 at the same settings
    and apps downloaded.

i dont know if its the same with the fascinate but on the captivate go to settings > about phone > battery use and you can see whats using most of it. things like facebook and myspace kill the battery if you have either of those running

also keep in mind there is a perception factor involved.....some people will claim it has to do with "conditioning the battery", i personally think it's the "newness of new toy worse off effect"

i know the first few days i stayed on mine, i was using every feature, GPS, WiFi stayed on(hey it made surfing much faster), pulled the old Bluetooth headset out and linked it up, had Facebook widget, corporate Exchange email autosync'd, personal Gmail autosync'd, Live wallpaper enabled(a really intense live Matrix one at that)....and i must have installed three dozen apps, played games, etc.......

today i have ADW Launcher installed, Ubuntu theme with static wallpaper, WiFi is only on when phone is plugged in next to lounge chair and i am surfing, Bluetooth stays off i will turn on when i need it, GPS stays off, i will turn on when i need it(and i disabled the google provider option in favor of the standalone GPS option), turned the screen brightness UP a fair bit, little over half, set screen timeout to 2 minutes, uninstalled a bunch of those apps i wasnt using, still have Exchange/Gmail/Facebook autosync'ing and have a nice scrolling widget calendar widget that auto sync's to my Outlook Exchange calendar.....

and my battery life has gotten much much better

its because you start using it less after a while

Well I have everything set 100% the same as my Droid 1 now, including
have pretty much all the same apps. If the battery is yet again at 50%,
then I think there in an issue, because my D1 set up this way, would
be at around 90 to 85% leaving it on standby all night. One thing I
noticed is, on the FN there is no battery percentage like on the
    rest of the Android devices.

I would say something is up as my fascinate only dropped 4% in standby over 7 hours. Check what is running in the background using a power mapper. Overnight I always have gps/wifi/live wallpaper/ autosync on gmail, facebook, corp email. 50% overnight sounds like the phone isnt going into sleep mode.

I am going to keep a eye on what's using it up, once it's done charging.
The only thing I have on is Auto-Sync, so nothing else should be killing
the battery. If it's down to even close to 50% again, then something
is really not right. Like I said, my D1 only dropped maybe to about 90
    or 85%.

Yup. There were only two things running, which was one of the widget
    clocks, and then voice search.

BTW, I have my screen brightness all the way down.

Also, I unplugged it just a little bit before 2PM Est.
I will keep a eye, and make sure nothing is running,
and also what is using the battery.

    Screen 42%

    Phone standby 29%

    as of now.

Have you tried juice defender? It's supposed to be a battery conserving app. IT basically turns off stuff like wifi/3G when the screen is off and turns it back on when you turn on the screen... check it out on market.

No I haven't, because I did not have those type of apps on my D1.

Well after a factory rest, my battery on standby has been great.
It's been off the charger since 2pm yesterday till now, and I have
not seen a drop in it what so ever. I am just lost as to why there
is no way to see the battery percentage..

You just gotta bit the bullet and get an app to tell you the percentage if you wanna know it
