Android Version: 2.2 (but also happened on 2.1)
    Network: Vodafone UK
    Taskiller Used?: No
[Optional]Are You rooted & which Rom: No
    Issue:

My phone's battery level will suddenly drop to 89% even though it is still on charge. It's annoying because sometimes you'll start the day with only 89% charge instead of 100%. My friend also has a Desire but is not experiencing this problem - the only difference between them is the version of kernel. I read somewhere that is was the kernel that was the problem and somebody found a fix - xda-developers - View Single Post - [DEV] Desire GSM/CDMA kernel 2.6.32 Google / 2.6.34/35 CyanogenMod [06/10/2010]

Here is a record of my battery state overnight (this is standard behaviour every time i charge it)..
You can see the first column is the time, 2nd is the battery level. The record begins from the moment i plug it in on charge. You can see that once it gets to 100%, after 40mins or so it suddenly drops to 89%, and its not due to natural discharging, this doesnt happen gradually, it happens suddenly, i've even watched it happen once.

I noticed that while I was still on 2.1 and I had a battery graph app installed. When I left my phone on charge overnight the graph would show that a few times it would drop in a vertical straight line from 100% to 89% and then gradually charge back up to 100% again.

I think it's just to do with the way the readings are reported. It is well reported that the battery charging will stop when it gets to 100% and only restart when it drops to below 90%.

To make sure mine is fully charged before I set out for the day I usually unplug the charger and plug it back in again straight away. Normally the led light will be green when I unplug it but then when I plug it back in again it turns to red. I wait a few minutes for it to turn green again and then unplug and this prevents any sudden drops to 89% while I'm using it.

Yes it was annoying when this used to happen. Another thing I don't miss with an AOSP ROM.
