I just can't believe how long the battery lasts on this phone! I went to work and the phone was on all night. I left work with 70% battery after playing with the phone a bit during a 12 hour night shift. I put the phone on a windscreen mount and started a SatNav app. The phone was on all the way home giving directions for 50 miles/1 hour 5 minutes without a charger plugged in. My battery widget still showed 50% charged, AMAZING :D

Mine lasts about a day when I'm at work, but I spend about 8-10 hours playing games. Otherwise it lasts about 3 days or so with little use.

Open the switchers app and see if the GPS/bluetooth/wifi/sync are running when your not actually needing them. I just switch them on when needed rather than leaving them on all the time. Also install "advanced app killer" from the market to turn off apps that keep running in the background after you close them.

    Hope that helps, Pete

It might also be worth mentioning that you can turn off background data in settings> accounts & sync. However this will disable auto update of your email, market and possibly some other apps, but it will make your battery last a bit longer still.

Seems the biggest drain is screen brightness. Mine is set at the lowest setting but with Amoled it's bright enough.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what sucks more power - 3G or wi-fi? I know they'll both drain the battery together, but just curious to know which sucks more power and whether the difference of one over the other in a static location (i.e not moving about as I know 3G can kill a battery due to hooking up to transponders etc) would be noticeable.

I'm going to guess wifi, purely because the battery most probably has to work harder to provide the faster throughput than what 3g provides.

3g is fast enough for me at work and home, so my wifi only ever gets turned on if I know there's a hotspot and I have no signal.

I think 3G is the more power hungry, especially if you're out and about.

    Hey all,

I'm new to android, and I have just (2 days ago!) got one of these phones on 3 here in the UK. But I must say, my battery life is terrible :-( It won't last 12 hours when it isn't getting any use at all. If I leave it overnight with the GPS, bluetooth, WiFi and auto-sync turned off, the phone on silent and the screen on the dimmest setting, I wake up to find it has completely discharged over night. I have read that 2.1 was hungry for power, but I also read that this phone had a great battery life. What should I do?

    Thanks in advance,

    timsarmchair

Are you SURE its fully charged? Leave it charging on the ORIGINAL mains charger overnight. I find that using a USB port or an after market charger will not charge the phone properly.

Yeah, I have done as you suggested and still experienced a poor battery life. After a lot of grumbling to 3, they eventually agreed to change the phone for me, but I still only get about a day's use out of it, with light useage.
