Is anyone else pissed about the battery life on the droid. My brother has an iphone he told me after messing around with it browsing sites and on the phone for an average day he never goes below 90%. I just unplugged my phone to show my friends a cool app and it already went down to 90 from 100. wtf, you shouldnt have to download any kind of task killer or application managment tools to run a phone. I'm seriously reconsidering this purchase, I love the phone and its capabilities but to manage it like its a windows operating pc blows.

#1. Your brother is full of it if he says its at 90% after a day of any type of consistent use.

#2. I'm fine. I used it a ton yesterday (wifi, 3g, pics, etc) and I was at 60% when I went to bed. I took it off the charger at 9am, and put it back on just after 1am.

Try disabling background data (in the sync menu). That will help a bunch because apps wont be CONSTANTLY pushing data whenever they feel on it (unless you need that to run).

ya my battery life has been pretty bad today. With normal use today i got about 7-8 hours before it was below 10%. Is this awful for everyone? I didn't have wifi or bluetooth or gps on or anything. the Display ate up 71% of the battery, how can i stop that?!?!

I'll just add my 2 cents.

About 4 hours of nav and 2 solid hours of browsing and downloading, playing with stuff today. When I got home, I was at 40% battery. There is NO way an iphone is going to match that.

But this is still too early for me to tell if this was an exception, or the norm!

turn off gps when u don't need it. same with wifi. the phone actually comes with a preinstalled task killer, in the settings menu., also you can buy a $40 backup battery,. the iphone doesn't have that.
but i hear what you're saying, i def wish the battery was like 30% more longer life.

Yes i agree, brother is full of it. I have a 3gs also and its just not the case, plus the iphone doesnt multi task. If it is jailbroken and can it will suck battery too. That said the Droid does well for a smart phone with such a large screen. What was your previous phone? Seems a lot of first time smart phone owners bought the Droid

I have all of that turned off. i just dont understand why apps after closing out of them still run in the background. that seems like it should shut down automatically.

It still amazes me even if you try not to bring the iPhone into a conversation with other phones it still gets brought in. The iPhone battery is not that impressive and I based on experience know you can not use that phone with heavy use and still have 90% battery left. That is more than B.S. that is a iPhone user who just does not ever want to admit the iPhone actually does have flaws itself!!

May I ask, how many of you have owned smartphones before? 7-8 hours with moderate-heavy use on a smartphone is excellent. Compared to a featurephone, well obviously not so good.

    This!

I've noticed that most iPhone owners do not like to admit defeat, and will do so at the expense of their souls. :D

I've owned iPhones and many winmo's even a TP2 (vz) and a pure (att) lately.

pure battery life is the best, but for some reason can never get more than 700k download out of it on att 3g. It's what prompted me to jump to the droid and give this phone a good workout...

And so far, the droid does everything very well, even battery life.

Ok ok hold up a second here, my brother isnt just saying that because he has an iphone and i bought the droid it has nothin to do with it. It's the simple fact that he told me that the battery life on an iphone is good. My brother was actually the one to push me to get this phone he loves it as much as i do, im just not happy with the battery, camera, and applications running after closing them.

So explain to me why after just unplugging did it go from 100 to 90 after maybe 5 to 10 mins of use in an application?

I believe it goes in 10% increments anyhow. The question is how long did it stay in the 90% range before it went to 80%? I'm pretty sure it will drop to 90% extremely quick since it goes in 10% blocks. WinMo phones tend to do this as well often.

I need to keep an eye on mine.

Second time you said that he "told you". Did you watch?

I'll bet it's the calibration of the battery display of yours, or the battery needs to be conditioned properly.

Even the iPhone had calibration issues where the battery would look to drain FAST or not drain at all, but the power of the battery was the same.

OR maybe he has a first gen (edge), and edge speeds are SLOW, but they don't drain the battery much, but even a first gen, his story sounds a little far fetched.

Do you have a lot of apps installed? There is a program you can download called Task Killer which will kill a lot of the apps running in the background. Of course using wifi will also deplete battery. But you shouldn't see a drop from 100 to 90% in 10 minutes.

And being that I have owned all three iterations of the iPhone one thing I can say with certainty is the battery life borders on horrid. The Droid IMO seems to be a bit better but a lot of it will do with what apps you have and what you use the phone for

I did have a lot of trouble with battery life yesterday. It might have been because I was trying everything. It might have been because I had things running that didn't need to be running. I did cut back on the display brightness and took it down to about a quarter. I haven't noticed any difference in my view of it but today the battery has been much better. It was over 2 hours before I was down to 90% after fully charging it this morning. (That only took an hour and a half).

My question then would be, what kind of signal do you get? I am in areas where 3g does not come in or fluctuates and that will cause a battery to drain quicker on a phone. If you have full signal and in 3G all the time your phone will not have to work as hard.

ok man you know my brother better than me because i guess for some reason he would lie to me about something like that. come on thats a joke, you guys are defending this phone like its your king or some shit. Let me get this across i like the phone a lot, im happy to have one it does everything i want but i feel like it needs some improvements.

Like i said earlier i dont want to have to manage it like a pc. after exiting or backing out of an application it should close and stop running. i have this app i got i was fooling around with called shopSavvy i closed out of it and its still running i even have a trial version of taskkiller and i disabled it and its still running. tell me why that is?

Thats odd, mines been unplugged since 10am and the battery icon looks like 75% and the meter shows 50%. But I have been on mine more then usual because im still installing and testing apps. Battery seems to hold up for me, actually better then other motorola's in the past.

p.s. Im in a digital roam area 75% of the time also because Verizon wont get off there ass and get it running in this area.

Hey, I just asked a simple question. I think it's you that are defending his phone like you stated :D

You still didn't answer the question. Did you use it like he said? Did you read my post on the calibration on the display of battery life on iPhone? I guess not!

how do you get to the place that tells you what percentage of a program is using up the battery?
