Now that I think about it...when I first got my phone I got about a day and a half with it, just a few calls and texts, but a lot of playing around with it. Then this morning I had it fully charged, loaded Advanced Task Manager and it was DEAD at 9PM. I only made two calls and three text messages. I think LTZGuy is onto something here about not using as Task Killer. Mine has just been deleted.

I'm going back to a scheme I used with my BlackBerries...uninstall the stuff I don't use and if I can't uninstall it (Android apps) there has to be a way to shut them down.

Sorry about that. I don't use Gmail. I use IMAP and Exchange and it allows me to select the font size.

The other bad news is once deleted, the problem isn't fixed yet. You'll have to restore your phone. Check out the threads in the Sprint HTC hero forum. Some people swear that task killer Isn't an issue. I know for a fact with my phone it was. I was instaling one app at a time then checking the sleep time. When I installed task killer, my battery life dropped quick. I turned the phone off then back on and my awake time was 100%...and after getting rid of awake time stays around 8%

    Task killer is bad. :)

When people are saying their battery is dead, how dead is it? 100% or just getting the 15% warning. I am trying to drain my battery to the point where it shuts off and although the home screen battery meter shows one red bar and the connect charger warning pops up its been running like this for 4 hours. Under menu -> settings -> about phone -> status it still shows 2 of 10 bars. It hasnt been on a charger for over 30 hours.

With the other issues I'm having with this phone I'm about to "restore" it to my old BlackBerry and wait for someone to get the bus out of the Android OS and the VZW hardware before trying it again.

My sleep time is hovering around 55%. I just uninstalled advanced task killer (that the verizon store put on it). If it continues to drop at this rate, its been unplugged for 45 minutes and down to 91% from 1 test e-mail to the phone and one test reply, I will find a way to restore the phone.

Mine was at 14% yesterday at 5:00 when I traded the battery in for a new one under warranty. The new one started at 56% and died (shut down) at 9:00 PM.

Eris battery did not perform well out of the gate. This may due to the twitter client and multiple IMAP, POP and Exchange accounts running in the background.

With very little talk time and intermittent browsing, I am concerned I will need to carry a second battery.
  8. and that would be a really dumb thing to do.....wifi radio transmitter uses a fraction of the power the cellular radio does.

For those who have their batteries you have apps open? I know on the BBs if you leave apps open (due to multi-tasking) the battery drains.

What kind of apps/functions are being used during the day?
  10. I get 1.5 days of GOOD usage (youtube, internet, calls, MP3 player on train) out of my Eris and I have not even cycled the new battery yet.

I'm at 43% "awake time" and down to 40% battery about 6 1/2 hours after taking it off the charger. GPS, Wifi and Bluetooth are all off. I have Advanced Task Manager but not Killer. This is driving me up a wall.

I just got my new Eris last night. I unplugged from charger at 4:30am. Only lasted to around 1:30pm. Of course, I was playing with it a lot but that seems ridiculous. This is a great phone, but the battery issue is huge!

Is there a place on the phone that shows what is running? Is there an option to shutdown apps? Or do you have to use one of these app killers or managers?

Ugh. Day two with my Eris. I really like it, but the battery is killing me. I played with it fair amount today, but no phone calls - just email & texting, and trying to set it up with Exchange at work. Took it off the charger at 6:30 AM, had to plug it in to charge at 1:30. I don't know how you guys are getting a day of life out of yours. I don't have the weather widget running, don't have bluetooth or wifi on. Mostly just playing with configuration, reading/sending email & sms, that's it. Tried wifi for a while, turned on GPS for about ten mintues, nothing else.

I really like my Eris, but I don't know about having a phone I have to charge in the middle of every day. I'm going to give it a few more, but even though I don't really want to go back to my Curve, I may have to. Damn!

That sounds almost exactly like my day. I was just trying out the phone, never really leaving things on too long. I am in your shoes, I really don't want to go back to my Curve!

    Posted this on another forum:

Seidio carries a 1750 mAh battery that is compatible (according to their website) with: For use with HTC TouchPro2/HTC Hero/HTC Tilt II.

It works in conjunction with your current battery door. Not sure if this is compatible with the Eris, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they develop one if not.

I know lots of BlackBerry users who have used batteries from this company, and they're all happy.

Has anybody done any testing to see if using Wifi where available helps with battery life? I'm wondering what data goes over Wifi versus the radio: gmail syncing, etc?

As for the higher mAh batteries -well, I would think a 1750 battery would be great - but for $50? Ouch. Seems a little steep.

Here's what I can tell you about my battery:
    - Woke up at 5:15, unplugged phone from charger
    - At 6:45, I checked the phone and it was already at 80% with ZERO usage
    - My awake time is about 23%, so it's not a messaging problem
    - I don't have bluetooth or WIFI on

This is really an issue for me. Going to the Verizon store today to get a replacement battery. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Otherwise, I LOVE the Eris. One other small complaint - the vibration on the phone is very hard to feel, especially when in the holster.

Ok, here are my battery issues. I charged all night after a complete discharge. I unplugged at 4:30am. All I did was watched it boot, and made sure I put it to sleep. At 5:00am it was down to 89%!! What! I absolutely did nothing. I think it said it had "awake time" of 8 minutes??? I wonder if it is something on initial boot after a charge. Yesterday, I got 6 more hours out if by turning off a few things and was able to get "awake time" down to like 10%. I am recharging with phone on and see if topping it off and starting over helps.

Advanced Task Killer was killing my battery. I would be in the same boat as you guys. After deleting it (and using no task killer) my batter life has improved dramatically. Been unplugged for an hour and a half right now and still at 100%. Even took a phone call and sent a text message.

Beware though - watching three episodes of the office on and some SNL killed my battery yesterday at work haha.

I see you did get a new battery at one point? Did that impact it at all? Are you doing anything special like turning off notifications or not using google data sync? I am not using any task killer so that isn't my issue. How are you charging your phone? Do you let it completely die and then recharge?

I second this...I installed ATK almost immediately after getting my Eris. I was worried about running apps and not being able to kill them. My battery life was horrendous. I read some other posts in the forum about Task Killer and uninstalled it. My battery life has almost tripled since then. I still have to charge it every night when I mess with it alot but at least I can make it through the day now.

I have notifications on. It syncs with my gmail contacts almost immediately (I am amazed I can delete someone on there and it delete them on my phone) and it syncs with facebook once a day.

As for all the apps/programs I'm using... I use the browser, facebook app, text messaging, HI AIM (once in a while), Pandora, and a little bit of google maps and a little bit of Gmail. I check my hotmail through the browser unless I need to download an attachment since the HTC app doesn't update immediately.
