    DealExtreme: $5.01 3.7V 1500mAh Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for HTC Touch Pro 2
This is my effort to try to save everyone a little time and money. I do not have any battery analyzers, but I tried to make this as scientific as possible with my limited knowledge and free time. I have three of these batteries. I am testing two of them now and saving one for a later test. I will continue to update this thread with new tests and hopefully some new batteries.
The following tests are conducted at the same location (within the same 1 sqft.) at roughly the same time.

DX - 1500mAh – Battery #2 – One week of use - Fifth Charge – Full overnight charge of 7.0 hours
    7:14AM battery @ 100%
    Close all non essential programs
    Running Google Maps – Duration
    Screen on – Duration
    10:20AM battery @ 14%
Result: 86% power loss over 3 hours and 6 minutes.

    -----------------

    HTC – 1350mAh – Battery #1 – Three weeks of use - Unknown Charge – Full overnight charge 7.0hours
    7:19AM battery @ 100%
    Close all non essential programs
    Running Google Maps – Duration
    Screen on – Duration
    10:15AM battery @ 14%
Result: 86% power loss over 2 hours and 56 minutes.

This is probably too close to call with just one test. I will continue testing throughout the week and post results. I would say it is safe to purchase this battery as a backup. It may or may not give you an extended battery life, but it is worth the $5.01
I will be testing DX Battery #1 next week. I believe DX Battery #1 will show better results. For some reason it has been lasting longer than DX Battery #2.

Can you identify which battery DX Extreme deal battery ? Is it an unknown maker or an HTC battery ?

Can you also explain the "7 hour charge"

Once the light turns green on the phone, while the phone is on, I have NEVER seen it to go back to orange, unless, its either turned off "Bump Charge" or unplugging and plugging it back in (only sometimes have I seen it go).

leaving it on charge until it goes green and beyond might still be the same as when it turned green - compared to that of the bump charge...

OK, so you understand what I mean, I am not sure, so one more time here is what I am saying happened:

Battery had partial charge (whatever that was), its then placed into the phone, and the phone on charge/ac adapter.

The phone, charges the battery to its decided/predetermined charge cut off - in - say - 3 hours. At which point, the phone, never charges the battery again in the next 4 hours.

Correct. And to further clarify, both batteries were at 14% when the charge began.

I will test further. Even if there is not a discernible difference in the life of the two batteries, I think $5 is still a good price for a backup battery. I may be a bit bias though because I dropped 14.42 on the set and would like to think I am getting a return from that investment.

Well, the extra battery is great; you're getting a total/combined up time in your OP of something 6 hours (give or take) which is better than it was doing with just one batter.
