What are the best Android phones on T-Mobile outside of the Nexus One? I have a friend who is on T-Mobile who I am converting to Android. Their contract is up and they are willing to sign a new 2 year contract, but it seems like with the Nexus One you still have to pay $279 for the phone. Unless I am reading it wrong, only customers totally new to T-Mo can get the Nexus for $179. While I have the Nexus One and absolutely love it, $279 is more than she is willing to pay.

I'm looking for the best Android phone with and without a keyboard, because she is still figuring out what she would rather have. Personally I don't like a physical keyboard and now with Swype I'm really glad I don't have one.

One other thing, ideally the phone will be upgradeable to Android 2.2 in the future.

I concur on the Vibrant. My only complaint is that I hated the TouchWiz on the Behold II and the promo video recently released suggest Samsung is adding their own flare on the Vibrant too. The MyTouch Slide has T-Mobile's Espresso version of Sense. I haven't really used either device so can't compare the UIs. Both devices have already been announced as having a 2.2 update in the works, but I don't think there's any official timeline for either. Of the two I would go for the Vibrant as it has not only the best screen (smoother multi-touch tracking than the iPhone), but should have the best 3D capabilities, so it should surpass the iPhone for a mobile gaming device.

Correction. The myTouch Slide is the best phone and it does have a keyboard (original MT3G does not). I'd even choose it over the Nexus. I would not necessarily assume that because a phone has a particular hardware feature (such as the processor) that is better than another phone, that it means that phone is automatically better. I think you need to take the device as a whole and for my money, the Slide is great. Obviously if you don't want a keyboard, that could be a deal breaker but you just have to examine the whole package closely.

The vibrant is the best phone on the market right now. It has a user friendly UI now with the new updated TouchWiz 3.0 which doesn't seem that bad. It would be good for someone who would like to play video games because of it's Hummingbird processor. It would also be good for someone who likes to watch movies because of it's very very very very nice 4 inch Super AMOLED display, and the phone comes with a full copy of Avatar. However, if you are looking for a more basic android phone, there is the myTouch 3G which is a very nice phone. It can still do everything android can do. Then there is the myTouch 3G Slide, which is the the only phone I considered over the vibrant.

All in all, if your friend wants to play heavy games and watch tons of movies on their phone, get him the Vibrant. If he still wants a good phone but doesn't something too high tech, get the myTouch Slide.
