So, if you have a case on your Droid X, what kind did you get? How do you like it? Where did you get it and how much did it cost?

Also, should I put a screen protector on the screen of my DX (when I get it)?

I hate phone cases, esp. on these newer phones that have a lot more horsepower and generate heat where the old dumb phones didn't. Being rubberized, I don't see why the X would need a case. I wish all phones had this finish.

I did put a screen protector on though. I hate those too however. Seems to help with smudges.

Hm, well I was just thinking I should get one in case I drop my phone or something. I have an iPod Touch with a silicone case on and I've dropped it a few times. I feel like the case has kept it from breaking. Maybe not though.

    Am I wrong?

I had a Seidio surface case on my Droid1 with a holster and liked it a lot. However, Siedio was late on cases for the DX so I got the Verizon black case with slide in/out holster and like it a lot. I'm going to stick with it.

As to the screen protector, I had one on my D1 until I saw a Youtube video with a guy banging a key on his D1 gorilla glass with absolutely no scratches. I took the protector off the D1 that day. Had it from Nov thru Aug and never had a scratch.

DX has the same gorilla glass so I did not put a protector on it. Glass is still perfect, although it's only been a month.

One thing.....I'm pretty easy on my phone...no drops, etc.

    Good luck to you.

A lot of it is personal choice. I got the Body Glove case because it was at the store. It's fine but the gel ones are a bit thinner. I think this will protect better however.
I like the phone 'naked' but don't trust me not to drop it and cause a premature death of an expensive item. Plus less scratches will allow me to sell it for more if/when that day comes about.
I also have a generic water-proof bag to carry my phone with my while fishing and/or kayaking.

I've bought three of them...my take....

    With extended battery:
    Body Glove>Seidio Surface>Verizon/Moto Glossy Silicon

    Without extended battery:
    Verizon/Moto Glossy Silicon>Body Glove>Seidio Surface

My rationale. All three fit the extended battery though the glossy silicon becomes distorted, bowing the sides out and contorting the opening to the power/HDMI jack. But it a nice slim case with the right amount of tackiness to slide in and out of the pocket without the extended battery.

The Seidio is hampered by an upper and lower lip that impedes your access to both the notify window and bottom buttons. But, it fits the extended battery better than the glossy silicon.

The body glove is designed better than the Seidio as there is no impedence of the buttons/notify window. And it fits the extended battery case well. I grade it only slightly below the glossy silicon on the regular battery because it is a bit more bulky. I used the body glove with the Droid 1 and was satisfied with it except for the fact that it was hard to remove for a battery pull. Otherwise I would have bought this right away (instead of it being the third case I bought). However, this one seems to come off much easier.

BTW, you can get both the glossy silicon and body glove at a Verizon store. The Seidio you have to order. It's overrated IMO as it is ergonomically challenged and it is the slickest (read: least tacky) of all three.

One more BTW, this thread belongs in the accessories sub forum....there is plenty of discussion of cases there.

BTW the Body Glove cover for the X has a notch(hole) in the bottom of it for a coin to fit to make taking the cover apart easy as can be. Took me a while to find it ;)

Seems like this thread is in the wrong section. It should probably be moved to Accessories where there is already an extensive thread on this topic.

I bought the high gloss silicon one from Verizon. I think it's regularly $20, but of all the cases they had this was the thinnest and felt the best in my hand (and pocket). I've had it for a couple weeks now and the only gripe I have is some audio cables, like the one for my car, have problems getting in the socket all the way, but that was solved by shaving down the plastic on the cable. Earphone cables seem to be thinner as I haven't had a problem with them.

    [I got it in black]

Originally I wanted the leather kickstand case, but it just made the phone feel too bulky.

    Holy schmackral.

That's what's it's for, and works perfectly too. Good tip. I kept trying to rip the cover off myself. Perhaps one day I'll actually read instructions.

I got the point the first two times I was told that it was in the wrong place.

I don't know why the other thread didn't show up on the list of "similar threads" or whatever when I entered the title. If it had, this thread wouldn't exist.

Thanks to all who are giving a proper response to my questions though.

Ordered the Body Glove case online when I ordered my phone. Really like the feel and size of the case. Seems to protect my phone well.

I have the body glove case also and just as previously mentioned it protects very well at the cost of being extremely bulky. I had the leather case with the kickstand first but that broke as i was trying to take the case off so exchanged it for the body glove case. I've had it for about 3 weeks and am thinking about just getting a holster and pray i don't drop it. I really like the phone w/o the case on so i probably will go to bb or vzw tomorrow and pick one up. Anyone have any thoughts about a holster compared to a case?

    Cheers

I typically use holsters because the cases add too much size to the devices. By the time they are pocketed, they are uncomfortably large. Holsters, on the other hand, are looked upon as geeky or for the older crowd. Most of the younger guys I work with carry their iPhones in their pockets. I don't care for the bulk and use a belt holster when in a work environment. If after hours and wearing cargo pants or shorts the DX goes in a pocket.

PS - I'm probably older than most of you...

I had the leather case with kickstand but ended up returning it. I had it for about 2 weeks and after taking it apart a few times the two plastic snap tabs at the bottom broke one at a time a day apart. Mind you I was very careful taking it apart... just a poor design. I ended up with the shell holster combo and I am pleased with though it doesn't have a kickstand, which I think they could have easily added. It is much easier to remove though removing the cover is still a nuisance. I aslo like having the phone on a holster better than in a pocket where keys or other objects can mar the surface. I do have a screen protector but I am referring to the unprotected surfaces around the keys and ear sensor.

I have this case in black and my wife has it in blue. We're both happy with it. Those argyle cases are hideous IMO.
