You are in the same boat I was. I showed up at bestbuy 3 months before my contract was up and after sprint refused to upgrade me. Bestbuy typed in my numbers and sold me new phones at the renewal price. The people here are so scared to try it because they fear Sprint will come to their house and tazer them or something.
It's like talking to a brick wall with some people.
For all you nay sayers, why not try it your self.
I went to the BB where I bought my Hero and asked about trading it in. They valued it at about $100 but said that if I traded it in on the EVO it would be towards the total retail price. They looked me up and said I am not eligible until end of the year.
Just do yourself a favor and dont assume that you can trade it in for the $199 price.
Buy the protection plan. My phone is going to break after the evo comes out. Already talked to my guy at best buy will just have to pay the difference.
It all depends on who you know at best buy.

This statement is exactly true. I work there and you'd be amazed at what we can do. Im on the fence about the evo cuz of the size but if I get one Im looking at paying about 50 bux for it. I just upgraded my phone January 5th 2010 btw.
