This is my first post on the android forums so first of let me say hi. I have gained a ton of knowledge about my DINC from this forum and it has really made my overall experience way better, so thanks!

Anyway, back to my topic. I went into a verizon store today to play around with the X as I have been extremely tempted to use one of my upgrades for the phone. There was no one in the store and so I went over and started playing with the X. I was approached by one of the managers of the store and proceeded to ask him if it was worth switching phones. This is what he said to me: "In my honest opinion I don't think it is worth it, its a great phone but the differences between it and the Incredible are pretty small. If it was me I would save my upgrades. I mean in 6 months Verizon will have phones with front facing cameras and 4G".

I am not sure how much has been said about when 4G will make its appearance with Verizon, but I just thought this was an interesting thing for a manager to tell me, especially since I have heard stories about how much they are pushing the X. Just thought I would share what I learned and would love to hear from you all.

In tech, there is always something "better" coming along. I think the best approach would be to take the best device available to suit your needs. The INC more than does that for me.

As for 4G, Verizon is planning on rolling that out by the end of the year along with some sweet devices (EDIT: likely, but no word yet on what exactly). If you are in one of those markets, maybe waiting for that is best. I will hold onto the INC and wait out the 2 years. My thinking is that the initial bugs or issues on the LTE (4G) network (if there are any) will be ironed out by 2012.

There's always something bigger and better coming out every couple of months. thats a given. also 4g is going to be phased in across the country, which is said to take about 2 years to accomplish at worst, starting in q1 2011 supposedly.

The next big thing is ALWAYS going to be 6 months away.

And honestly, who actually would use an FFC? And even if they launch 4g tomorrow, it'll still be 2012-2013 before a majority of users will actually be using it.

with the speed of all these new devices coming out i definitely do not think it would be worth it
his opinion about the front facing camera is just an obvious generalization of where phones should be and will be going, i mean hell phones in korea have had front facing cameras with video calling for at least 3-4 years now

Hello and welcome to the forums. Like all phones when they are released they become obsolete because their manufacturer has already begun creating the next phone with better features. It's up to us customers to decided which phone best suites our daily life. It's true there is not much difference between the X and the Incredible. The X is bigger, front face camera, and 720p but an update for 720p is coming for the Incredible. But other than that they are the same. Regarding the next big phones to come out...it's up to the customer to decide if the features are worth dishing out the cash

Except for TouchWiz being lame and nearly exactly as it was on the Omnia, and also having Bing installed as default :S

No, the X does not have a front facing camera.

To the OP, what the manager told you is exactly what I'm positioning myself for. By the time my annual upgrade becomes available, there should be some sweet 4g phones. That's the only differentiator that would entice me to upgrade. I'd like the front facing camera for video calls but that's a gimmicky feature without low-latency 4g (yes, worth it on the EVO but useless on the iPhone). Also, would love hdmi out but in a year it'll probably be 1080p capable. Bottom line, unless you're into pouring cash into incremental tech upgrades, it makes sense to hold off until the new year.

For most of us who surround ourselves with technology, failing to realize this will drive you nuts. I never worry about the next best thing when I buy something. Then I'd never buy anything!

That said, the Evo is definitely a sweet phone :D

Not quite as lame. Borderline, maybe :)

Thats why I am hoping that it will be rooted beforehand, like the other Galaxy S class phones have been.

These things move so fast. I mean it was merely six or seven months ago when the original Droid was released and now it's practically obsolete. By Spring, the Incredible was top dog, then the EVO had its one month of fame before being up-ended by the Droid X. I'm confident that by January or February next year, we'll have even better phones. Right now I think if we have any of these phones we're doing pretty good!

    ...unless you're an iPhone customer.

Seriously, though, unless you actually NEED the xyz technology/function/feature that the phone provides, just stick with what you've got. You'll always have something new to nerd-out over every few months.

I don't reply much -- I'm a lurker. That being said, I've been on here since the wait for the Incredible began.

Everyone that has already replied is correct -- there will always be something better. Every time you buy/build a PC, it's obsolete a week later. Obsolete being that there is something bigger/better/faster/more powerful. Your best bet is to pick what will make you happy.

I love my Inc. Would I want the X? No. I don't like the real buttons (crap gets stuck in them). Do I like HTC? Yes. Therefore, the HTC phone makes me happy and I'm good until a nice HTC 4G with front facing camera makes its way to stores in a year or so.

It's funny... I used to upgrade phones every 2 years. Now it seems that the bloodsucker companies want me to upgrade every 2 weeks seeing as how that's how fast they are putting new phones out.

Hey, at least I can hold mine in my left hand to make phone calls... wait, iPhone what?

Yeah. But I should confess that I didn't heed my own advice. I held onto a enV2 for months after my upgrade date after I heard of the Passion/Dragon/VZW Nexus One. I was SOOOOO close to caving and getting a BB Tour or the MOTO DROID way back when (8 months ago ≠ "way back when").

    So true.. so true.

yeah makes sense but, when you buy a phone, specially an Android phone you're buying the phone knowing that in no later then 2 months that will be a "better" phone coming out, but i still like the inc better then the droid x, the droid x has some better features but nothing major for what i use my phone for.

Now talking 6 months down the road I'm SURE that there will be not 1 but 3 or 4 better phones out.
