Google has added bike trails to their online mapping service.

    Link

I have not seen if this will be added as a layer to the maps for Android yet, but it would be nice, since it's easier to use the phone while biking than a laptop.
Any other bikers out there who would like to see this added to the Maps App?

Yes most definitely! Wondering how our local trails would be added? I clicked on the link above and our city trails aren't shown. Maybe only available for larger cities?

Yeah, most likely just larger cities for now. But it sure would be nice to have that added to the Android version of Google maps, soon.

After my initial post, I read an article in the Chicago Tribune that said Google is also working on a mobile application to be released later. Apparently I'm not the only one that figures strapping a laptop to the handlebars just won't work.
It can be done, but the results aren't pretty, trust me.

Good point, handle bars on an ipad would make them usefull.

I was going to strap an iPad to my wife's bike seat. Seems appropriate.

    :D
