I recently bought a Galaxy 3 4.3 from Boost to replace a Galaxy 2 I owned. My phone was stolen 1st of the 2014 year so I need a new phone. I had an old thread here is the link as to where I left off with my old phone......
    More Info on phone
Device Name and Model Number - SPH-L710
    Version 4.3 Baseband version - L710PUBMK5
    Kernel 3.31.2045665
    Hardware Version L710.14

What model information is needed when looking for compatible files to work with?

I wanted to use this new phone for a tethering device and so far it looks like I cant buy a hotspot option from Boost and my first attempts to get any app to tether without root is going nowhere. At present I would have preferred to not root phone as no desire for ROMS and any Apps I use I purchased.

I hoping you guys can lead me to the best way to get this phone working as I need. I would not mind rooting if I can rollback the system If and when the Official 4.4 Kitkat come out.

I would not be able to use the backup software that requires root as well but its not a deal breaker if I can just be able to tether device.
I gonna get this thread started and see where it takes me and can answer any questions to get tethered.

I seen some info on supposedly need to Step two: Enable USB debugging mode on your phone. If it's running Android 4.0 or 4.1, tap Settings, Developer Options, then tick the box for "USB debugging." (You may need to switch "Developer options" to On before you can do so.) On Android 4.2 and later, tap Settings, About Phone, Developer Options, and then tick USB debugging." Then tap OK to approve the setting change.

I not seen USB Debug option my G3 4.3 is it still there?

Kingo Root it now, unroot it later.

If you want to pay something like $10/month extra for tether just call boost and add it on....

If you don't want to pay, then root your phone for free. Downside for you is that once you root your phone YOU will not want to unroot it, nor for kit kat not even for android 4.5 or android 5.0 for that matter...

Now if you do decide to root... I suggest also flashing moar rom. Almost all roms will come with wifi tether but moar will look like stock which is what you're probably used to but it will be highly easy to modify to your likings with lots of added features. ..

I use wifi tether 5 days a week for about 10 hours straight in my vehicle to tether my tablet to use as a gps mapping system. I don't pay an extra dime!

I will look into the moar rom but as far as paying Boost for the hotspot the G3 not a listed device there were 2 listed the G2 was one of them and some HTC phone. Your saying if I call Boost they can hotspot me for $10- monthly?

I just installed Kingo and it wants me to enable usb debugging, This 4.3 ROM is new to me as my old G2 had 4.1.2 on it and I seeing that it cant be downgraded so let the rooting games begin.

I was under the assumption that boost was able to add hotspot to all the smart phones for $10/month... but if you only see the option on only a couple phone then I may be wrong... it will not hurt to call and ask though, it would be foolish for them to turn down a free ten bucks a month with how easy it to obtain it.

If you don't want root soley because you do not want to void your Samsung warranty I would say give your phone a week or two to see if there are any flaws and then go ahead and root the phone because Samsung phones are practically unbrikable unless you drop your phone or run over it with a car

Ya I will call and pretty happy with new phone as it much faster 4GLTE vs 3G on old phone due to not be able to use there old 4G where I live so I know this phone is what I want to stay with even if somehow my old phone reappears. I can use Youtube now running on phone and all the sites with streaming videos :) and it seems like be great tethering device.

+1 on that one Smith. With the recoveries available and Odin, bricking this phone is almost impossible. Samsung makes some great devices.

As far as rooting, every device I have gets rooted soon after I get it home. The benefits far outweigh having an unrooted phone or tablet. The custom ROMs available for the S3 are absolutely amazing too. I've been using Androids for several years now and the custom ROMs for the S3 are some of the best I have ever seen. The ROMs and Developers for the S3 are definitely top notch.

Tethering is a huge bonus too if you need it. I haven't had to tether in quite awhile but it sure is nice knowing I have the option if the power goes out and I need Internet for my tablet or laptop. It's also nice to have Internet access if I'm in an area where there are no open hotspots. ;):D

I have a Samsung galaxy S3 with Android 4.3 of Boost Mobile. I would like internet access from my phone in my tablet Samsung Galaxy 10.1. I know that I need to use the hotspot, but doesn't connect. I tried with same apps and all give me sentence Hotspot no supported. I know that I need to do a ROOST. I tried with some, but they don't work with Boost Mobile.
I would like to know if you can help me with this, to connect my tablet or my laptop to use the Wi-Fi thru my Boost Mobile phone

Hello. When you have issues or questions about a specific ROM like the hotspot not working, etc....., you should refer to the actual ROM thread itself. As far as the hotspot working with MOAR, it should work if you have it set up properly.

There is another method to get a working hotspot if you have consulted the MOAR thread and still cannot get the hotspot to work.

Here is the original wifi hotspot fix we had for the Boost S3. If all else has failed, try this-

I think the settings only work on MD 7 and MG2... (I have not updated that thread science we were able to get custom roms on our phone) So if anyone is on the latest updates (MK5) of the phone I think they have to configure new settings however it is a good place to start.

I believe all custom ROMs have working wifi tether and yes the latest version of MOAR works flawless.

Yep. The ROM's hotspots are working. He just doesn't have something set up right.

Thanks for the heads up on the old tether app too. I wasn't aware it only worked on those modems. :D

I purchased the WiFi Tether Router app and it'll work with anything. lol I had some problems early on with Liquidsmooth and bought the app on the advise of Struckn. If anyone has problems with a ROM's hotspot and wants to spend a little money for an easy tether app, WiFi Tether Router is a sure thing.

It's still probably the best free wifi tether app there is....
It will probably still works, just needs different settings... and I'm sure by now the app itself has been updated for newer Android versions so a newer app version might be needed to be downloaded...

But butter to have a solid paid version that will never fail you when you need it! I'll be looking into that

I have this app too and it has had an update since the last time I used it.

But, I can't get it to work with TW 4.4.2, specifically Wicked-X. How do you get WiFi tether to work with Wicked-X?

You don't need to Wy. Look in the OP under ISSUES. There is a fix for the built-in hotspot. Just flash it and you'll be good to go. I've got it to connect to both my pc and tablet.

It's the ND8 fix. Has one for odexed and deodexed too.
