Help Booting failed in recovery mode

Hi, I've got a Nexus 7, 2012 wifi only model. I went to turn it on last week and got nothing. I pressed volume down and power and got a picture of the Android on it's back with its chest open. When I went into start/restart boot loader/ recovery mode all I get is the words booting failed in the top left hand corner in tiny print. Any ideas?
