Brand New Eris - Questions and IssuesGeneral

    Hi all, I'm new to android and the eris both. I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find the answers to (sorry if they are here and I just didn't see them :) )

    First, the vibrate on my phone stopped working today. I restarted the phone, then did a battery pull, neither worked. It doesn't vibrate for texts or calls, the alarm, and the haptic feedback on the 4 main buttons does not work.

    Second, the speaker sounds as if it is blown during some phone calls, yet works perfectly for music playback. Is there a setting that i'm missing here?

    Third, Is there a way to change the sounds for the following:
    low battery alert
    startup sound

    Fourth, Is there a widget out there that allows for control of all volume types at once? (alarm, media, in call, ringer)

    That's it really. I've only had the phone about 2 weeks. I love it so far, but the vibrate not working and the blown speaker sounds are dulling my happiness some. I've had to do some restarts for minor issues like not being able to add widgets, but nothing else really significant.

    I'm on stock 1.5, with the following apps:
    appbrain
    spare parts
    handcent
    silentmode on/off
    not call log
    barcode scanner
    astro
    opera mini 5

    The only change in my apps has been a handcent update earlier today. I unistalled and reinstalled it and that didn't do anything for my vibrate issue.

    Sounds like you have a real lemon there. I'd bring it into Verizon to get it replaced while it is still under warranty, and I'd do it soon. Then worry about the other stuff later.

    Wait to get the Incredible..cough cough Droid eris is out of date I do love my Eris but I wish I waited for the Incredible!

    I had an older phone that stopped vibrating, had terrible battery life just a few days after I got it, but I never got around to taking it in to verizon. A month or so goes by and the screen breaks in my pocket. I take it in and explain the numerous electrical flaws and get nothing but a bill for a new phone. So yeah I would take it in before some physical damage allows them to hold you accountable.

    Also quick settings has a volume control button within it that displays all the different volumes on your phone, very handy.

    All that from a brand new Eris out of the box?

    I would not keep it for one day.

    "Lemon" comes to mind. Exchange it, is my advice.

    Thanks everyone! I'll be taking it to Verizon tonight and switching it out. It's a great phone otherwise and I wasn't experiencing any of the lag or other problems I saw mentioned here. Hopefully the next one is much better. Also thanks for the volume app recommendations. @OTD, I'll make sure to tell Verizon you personally told me to bring the phone back :)

    I would take the phone back and wait until the Incredible comes out the 29th and get that.

    I might do that. I'm not really interested in the incredible just yet. I don't like buying tech right out of the gate and the $ is a bit too high, but if my next eris sucks it up I may have to.

    Update: So it seems that my phone is out of the 30 day period. It was a gift, but was apparently purchased and then wrapped and given to me after the 30 day period... So Verizon said all I can get is a refurb. I've had refurbs in the past and they either worked or didn't. Any info on refurb erises? I don't mind I guess, b/c I can keep sending them in if they don't work.

    My girlfriend's Eris had to be replaced and she ended up with a refurb. It works great and she has had zero problems with it.

    I have a refurb and no problems! Check out AudioManager Widget in the market! It works great for me :) The pro version is only a buck and allows you to make audio presets.

    most refurb erises i've had have been decent but not great.

    Who knows...you might get an eris i previously had haha

    I have never had a problem with VZW referbs. just had to add my two cents. and btw i agree with OTD on the nice profile pic

    Received my refurb the other day. So far so god. Actually seems to be a bit quicker than my "new" one. The only problem I had was reloading my apps from appbrain. Appbrain didn't work and instead of adding the apps I had saved to my eris, it deleted them from the website :(

    I'll keep you posted if this phone makes it or not :)

    Some had posted before that Appbrain might work as a backup for apps.
    Now we know :eek:
