    gabenative Compass

Compass is the most precise compass app available. It supports magnetic and true north calculated using network location or GPS coordinates. Furthermore this compass displays the location coordinates and the strength of the magnetic field to see if it interferes with the compass sensor. It supports high definition displays and can be installed on the SDCard. Download the best compass for free!

    Compass 1.1.1 released. Big Changes!

    • Introduced sensor fusion on devices with a gyroscope. This is a really big change. The result is a completely not wobbling compass arrow, when the device is not moved.
    • Changed the low-pass filter algorithm for Android 2.2 with a better one that is more responsive and is compatible with the new sensor delay option.
    • The compass now chooses the best sensors for your device for calculating the compass degree.
      • Sensor Fusion: For devices with Android 2.3 or higher and a gyroscope
      • Accelerometer/gravity and compass: For devices without a gyroscope or with Android 2.2
    • Added new settings option for the sensor delay. You can now decide at which rate the compass gets new values from the sensors. The lower this rate the less battery is consumed. If the compass does not work on your device, try setting a lower sensor delay.

    Compass 1.1.3 released!

+ Changed the algorithm for determining the best sensor under a list of sensors with the same sensor type. On the Nexus 7 the compass arrow is even more stable now!
+ Fixed: Sensor fusion support was detected on devices where it doesn't work.

It depends. What do you mean with peppery? The compass works without GPS und Network Location. Consider that you only get magnetic north without GPS and Network Location.

If you didn't open the app there is no way the compass could possibly use your battery. There is no service running in the background. The compass uses your battery only when it's open, because the sensor will be unregistered when the app is hidden. So there shouldn't be any battery usage when the compass is hidden.

Thanks for the screenshots. Well, it's strange. Did you close the app with the home button or with the back button?

Would you like to send me a bug report over the app? I'm not sure i can fix this, because it works on my devices, but the bug report would be helpful while trying to fix it.

It looks like that the sensors don't get unregistered when the app is closed. Thats a bit strange, because even if the app would not unregister the sensors, Android definetely would, when the app is removed from memory. So i think the app remains in memory for a long time on your device.

PS: Thanks for the screenshots. They are helpful.

    gabenative Compass 2.0.0 released!

This is an upgrade to the new major version 2. I basically improved and changed everything in this app. I'm very proud of this upgrade and i hope you like it as much as i do. Don't forget to rate this new version ;-)

    • Massively reduced app size
    • Hugely improved user interface by using vectors and Material Design. Now the compass looks the same on every device independent of the Android version and it looks awesome on every display resolution from low resolution to ultra high resolution and higher.
    • Added support for the permission model of Android 6
    • Added small cardinals like "ENE", "NE by E"
    • Added blinking labels, when sensors are unreliable
    • Added GPS and network location fusion system, which will automatically choose the most precise coordinates
    • Fixed compass needle pointing to wrong direction on display orientation changes by exactly 180°
    • Improved: No app restart is needed anymore, when the sensor precision is changed in the settings.
    • A lot of other changes, see changelog in app for full list.

I restricted the pro version to the countries in the EU. This is because of the taxes and VAT. Every countries has it's own VAT laws. I'm only one person that designs and develops this app. Selling the app outside the EU is too much work and would be too expensive.

But you are right, a lot of users would love to buy the pro version and i would love to sell it :(

Wow, I thought that was part of what the commision to Google was to handle all that transactional stuff. :(

Unfortunately Google handles only the countries in the EU and only because they are obligated by the EU to do so. Would the EU not obligate google to handle the VAT remitting, i would not be able to sell the app outside of Germany.
