Could really use some help on this one, I'm in over my head. It's a Fascinate, was running MIUI for about a year. Now it's a very nasty soft brick. On boot it goes to the MIUI splash screen and freezes there. It will not go into recovery mode. It goes into download mode, but then isn't recognized. Windows will see it, then error on the device (that's with a good install of the samsung driver) and odin can't see anything. Linux Ubuntu has Heimdall seeing the device but then can't handshake with it. Here's the Heimdall error:

Since libusb was installed, and Heimdall still errors about the handshake -- most people weren't getting problems after that.
So as you can tell I've been at this for some time. It's my only phone right now, and if it's not fixed that's a big problem...
