Just a few questions about the brightness on the Desire.

What is the default brightness?

What brightness setting do you use?

Do you use auto brightness?

I use a screen brightness widget from the market and set it to 3 out of 5. Auto brightness off. if i'm out on a sunny day, I have to set it to 5 though.

I think default is auto.

I used to switch regularly to suit my location but now I just set to auto as a lot easier and seems as good if not slightly better on the battery. probably cos I am not prodding buttons every 5 mins

I use auto brightness and I find it fine in most situations and doesnt seem to affect battery life. The only times I struggle to see the screen clearly it would be exactly the same on any other phone i.e direct reflected sunlight.

I may start using auto brightness, I haven't used it yet.

I find auto brightness to be good in most situations, and always keep it on auto even when I am in direct sunlight.

I use the power control widget on the middle setting indoors and the highest setting when outside.

I've started using auto this week, battery usage doesn't seem affected. Seems ok in sunlight.

I use the extended controls widget to set my brightness. If I'm inside the green bar below the brightness icon is off (0% I think) and if I'm outside I tap it once or twice (60% or 100%) depending on how bright it is. 3 taps and I have all the brightness levles I need.

I use auto. Works pretty well most of the time. You can see it working if you sit outside and cover the light sensor to varying degrees.

auto also, although i tried playing manually and it was not a big improvement. Biggest tip? in strong sunlight, take off/look around your sunglasses, that helps loads!!

Most modern sunglasses polarise incoming light. AMOLED screens, like LCD displays, output polarised light waves. So the filters in the sunglasses will block the light emitted by the screen, unless the phone is at or near to an angle that allows the light to pass through the filter.

It stays on auto unless I really can't see the screen very well, in which case I use the power control widget to turn brightness to full.

I then turn it back to auto through an app/widget called auto bright, useful for one click operation.

Auto brightness works really well...
