Is there any App that will help take better pictures? I'm tempted to call Verizon up because I think my Camera isn't functioning at all.

I can take a picture of my daughter, in full light, and it comes out blurry as all hell.

Blur is due to focus not lack of light.

Can I ask what phone you have?

Motorola Droid. There is no "focus" button on the Camera... all I can do is hit the take picture button and pray it takes a decent picture. On most Camera's, theres a halfway button where you can make sure the Camera focuses before you actually take the picture.

My wife's 4.0MP camera is bounds beyond this.

Does the Droid not have a feature where you tap the screen on the object you wish to focus? THEN take a picture after it focuses?

If it does, I'm going to feel like a real jerk. Let me go check.

    Edit - Nope.

Only Zooms in (when double tapped). Single tap does nothing.

I recommend you download FxCamera regardless.
It has an AutoFocus button and lots of effects.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but I will. I just don't understand why it requires an external application to work at a baseline configuration?

I have the same problem with my HTC tattoo, but I can't find the app on the market or on Slideme. maybe it doesn't work on the tattoo , like some other apps. Anyone knows about other apps that can do the same thing?

For the picture settings, is Superfine better than Normal?

I haven't yet tried FxCamera (though I plan to), but the reason is that, unlike the iPhone, everything in the Android is basically just another app. So the one that came with it may or may not be any better than another that you can download.

Similarly for music. The default Music app that came with my Droid is so-so. I'm trying out tunewiki, and it's a tiny bit better, but I'm still waiting for a really good one. So the android gets some minor negatives for not having a great music app right out of the box. BUT, and it's a big but, the fact that it's open enough that anyone who wants can simply create a better app is a major plus. Compare to the iPhone, where no one else can create an app that will play your iTunes music.

So the default apps that come with the Droid are just so-so. Well, that's basically equivalent to the basic apps that come with your computer: they're just so-so. Don't complain about Microsoft Paint, get a better drawing application. Ditto for the camera.

EDIT: Tried out FxCamera. Meh. Pictures don't seem significantly better, and the fact that I have to scroll way over to pick "normal" camera everytime I launch it is a big negative. Oh well.

I must say that this is the one and probably only reason to buy a Samsung android phone over any other. I'm not sure about the Moment (I believe it runs Android's camera app) but the behold II runs Samsung's proprietary camera software and the quality is better than any other android phone currently on the market.

But there is. Touch the menu key, select settings, scroll down through the options and select Focus mode, you can then set it to auto.

You can set it up to open the normal camera every time in the options.

Hmmm, I can't find that, neither in the Common Settings nor in the Normal Mode settings.

Sorry, I was thinking of Camera ZOOM FX. You can't do it with FXCamera.

Yes, there is.. The camera button on the side of the Droid.

When you're in the camera app, if you hold it down to the first stop it will focus (brackets at corners will change from white to green and it will beep twice). Press the rest of the way to take the picture. If you use the on-screen shutter button, it will focus before taking the picture.

This is, of course, assuming you haven't turned auto-focus off in the settings.

The camera button does indeed have a halfway press auto focus on the moto Droid. But I agree it takes crap pictures compared to the Eris I had. I didn't think so at first but after playing with it more I changed my mind.
