I'm happy with it... I've taken some pretty good pix with it. Now, if only the video recording was in HD -- then I would be ecstatic. But "happy"? Yep, I'm happy! :)

I'm happy with it. I think there's room for improvement, but it takes pictures well enough.

compared to other phones with 5mpxl cams, the droid comes in last place for me. actually, i've seen 3mpxl phone cams that do better

I think the camera is nice but it takes some work messing with the settings.

Playing around with the white balance makes a huge difference but I have seen some wonderful pictures taken with the Droid. The was some flickr site someone posted of a pro photographer who just made it look like, well, a pro camera.

My own picture have ranged from abysmal to mediocre to pretty good.

Overall I'm content but there is definite room for improvement.

I find the camera to be pretty washed out in almost all lighting conditions. I haven't played with the white balance much, but will probably do so. I'd also like it if the camera were faster.

However, video recording on this phone is PHENOMENAL. Well, one disclaimer - you need good lighting. But if you have it, video turns out GREAT. I'm very impressed with it.

Grainy, generally over-exposed and lacking any warmth whatsoever. Have you guys ever used another camera phone? The iPhones is much better for average, everyday pictures.

Get the market app Pro Camera 5X Zoom. It dramatically changes (for the better) the camera's performance. IMHO.

i absolutely HATE the stock camera app. its slow as hell (i dont care what kind of 'suggestions' u guys make). i shouldn't have to worry about all these measly suggestions just to take a simple picture. my BB tour is a 3.2 mp cam and took WAY better pictures. it was WAY faster too. oh and did i mention the stock camera app gives off this ugly ass green tint? and NO its not just me, i have two other friends with droids and their camera has the same sh**y quality.

sorry, i just had to rant off about the camera cause seriously.. this is inexcusable.

Exactly. In very disappointed that they chose a marketing gimmick over quality. Especially with the build quality of the phone, the fact that they went with crap just to look better than the iPhone on paper is disappointing, because in practice the 3.2 mp in the iPhone and blackberries are better than our 5 mp.

Why do people still assume that more MP means better quality? MP is just the number of pixels. It tells you nothing about the various other factors that also affect image quality.

Take photos with it and other phone cameras under the same conditions. Compare results.

I'd have to say I'm disappointed with the stock camera app and not the quality of the hardware itself. Really wish the stock app had zoom functionality for both still and video.

Agreed. Everyone seems to be talking about the quality of the pics it takes but I'm much more concerned with the speed of the shutter. If I want high(er) quality pics, I'll use my digital camera. I always believed that a camera in my phone was for off-the-cuff pics I wanted to take when I don't have my real camera with me. While I've been happy that cameraphone picture quality has been getting better in the recent years, the shutter on the Droid's camera is so slow that it's unusable as far as I'm concerned. It's a shame. I'd gladly trade in their spec of "5 MP" for a 3.2 MP camera that will actually take my damn picture before the subject moves. The camera is BY FAR my BIGGEST disappointment with this phone...Actually, it's my only REAL disappointment; everything else is just a minor quirk or slight annoyance.

Certainly better than my old Voyager's camera, but still leaves a lot to be desired. All of my pics seem to be slightly blurry and if you're indoors with only incandescent (lamps) lighting, then you can forget legible pictures/video. Seems you need to be outside in the daytime or in a well-lit office to make use of it.

The speed of the camera loading up and after taking pics is actually pretty damn fast if you're OC'd to 1+ GHz though.

compared to cam phones 5 years ago, this is good, but using the omnia i910, omnia 2, iphone 3gs, and droid eris as comparisons, the droid is terrible.

if you take a pic outside at 3pm on a clear day, the pics look ok, but when you zoom, you can really see the fuzziness. it's like there are circular pixels. you can get the same "effect" by using soft focus or radial blur in a photo editing program. it just makes no sense. most pixeliation looks sharp with straight lines. this may be a software attempt to "smooth" the edges, but it just makes it worse.

low light conditions are atrocious. the flash doesn't make anything better, just brighter and noisier.

as far as a solution .... i have none. i can't tell if it's software or hardware. it may just be a crappy lens. we've all cleaned the lens when we heard that it magically fixed the camera, and we've downloaded barcode scanner and magnify, but the truth is the camera remains fuzzy. oh well, can't win em all.

Anything other than a FB posting should be left to a dedicated device. Not to be a Debby downer, but I'm a photo snob, and have to have the best possible photo for nearly all applications. If I'm posting something quick to the net, sure this will do in a pinch. But, I never look to my phone to substitute for such a situation.
    My 2 cents.
