Help Can I still use Ascend and wifi after discontinue METROPCS service?

Hi, I had Ascend from metropcs for 2 months and my office doesn't get any reception. I am thinking about discontinue metropcs. My question is, I like the phone, Can I still browser internet in wifi or download market stuff without metropcs service? What can I do without service? Thanks a lot.

Interesting, you can't use wifi at all? At least on my iPod touch I can connect to wifi and download apps and all that.

I honestly don't see how it would work if you don't have service because they would disconnect all features that could enable you to connect to wifi and the market.

Find a Pageplus dealer. They use CDMA phones and the local one here said it is fully operational with their service. It uses Verizon towers so he told me. I am going to do it after the first of the month.

I can still web surf {Without WI-FI} on my old phone{MOTOROLA HINT QA 30}, even though I switched the service over to the ASCEND that I now use.

PagePlus only gives you 20MB of data on an unlimited plan, then charges 60 cents/MB for overage.....Ouch.

To answer the original question YES you can use the phone with just the WIFI and yes you can download any app without the Metro PCS service. Your battery will last longer also.

since wifi is just a connection,( like using a router, or a laptop) I don't see why you would not be able to connect to a hotspot like any other device with wifi, try a free hotspot.

WIFI is a technology, not a service, as far as your basic cell phone service to call someone, that would be cut off. If I were you, I would get a hotspot locator application for your cell, before your cut off, and use that application to find open hotspots where you live, and pray for WIMAX one day.

Yes, you can do anything with your phone without the Metro Service, INCLUDING Calls and texts over wifi. PM me about that

I guess connecting to a hotspot, and using google's phone calling service in their gmail, u could make regular calls, through the internet. U just won't be able to use it for calls without wifi nearby.

I seen you posted that wifi should work, do you know any setting to be done? I tried to connect wifi after I disconnected service (metroPCS). It starts wifi however it says my home network Not in range. (I am currently connected to same network from my laptop!!!). This message it shows for all networks nearby.

It should work. Also if you download some of the texting apps like XMS Buddy you can send texts over wifi.

so today im getting myself a t-Mobil phone because they have a amazing deal for only today, all phones under $100.
and going to leave my ascend as my secondary phone just in case.
i know that my 3g or 1g will be lost when i cancel my account in metropcs right?
but can i still use "WIFI" text or surfing the internet on my 3g?

wifi will still work. your not gonna have a data connection via 3g if the phone is not active.

Sure. Wifi works fine. You can make phone calls too, if you use an app like GrooVe IP in conjunction with Google Voice. The only things you cant do involve using cell towers, like regular phone calls and 1x/3g/4g stuff. You can browse, use the market, use a 3rd party messenger app, use a Voice IP, etc.

I tried to connect wifi (I dont have service), it detects all the networks near by but while trying to connect it says "Not in Range".... not sure what could be issue or how they have block it.
