Just wondering, can I plug a regular set of earphones into my Desire. The standard headset for the desire has a microphone and a 3.5mm plug with an extra terminal. Also, I find the stock earbuds very uncomfortable.

I want to plug my Sennheiser IE7 earphones into it but don't want to damage the phone or the earphones (as both are expensive items) unless I know that they'll be fine.

I'm not bothered about the microphone capability - I just want to listen to podcasts and music using my IE7 earphones.

Anything with a 3.5mm jack will be fine. I use some of my Sennheisers without a problem.

Yes, you can use any standard set of headphones with a 3.5mm jack.

Man, you're still using IE7? Get Firefox like a real man.

Not entirely true unfortunately.. 3.5mm jacks that only have 2 rings on them are very quiet. You have to ensure you get ones with 3 rings to get decent volume.

Yes, you're ipod headphones have a TRRS Jack. 4 metal contacts seperated by 3 insulation rings. However, some normal headphones aare TRS (3 metal contacts seprated by 2 rings).

The HTC desire is designed for TRRS

I've noticed a few times that headphones aren't recognised when I plug them in.

A restart of the phone fixes it, so it's not a massive problem. But irritating non the less.

I just checked the earphones and it is the TRS (3 metal contacts separated by 2 rings) but it seems to work fine.

Anyway you're lucky. Almost everyone else with TRS are complaining theyre too quiet.

I have found that the HTC earphones pick up FM radio better than my Sony earphones :)

I have just purchased a pair of Sennheiser CX 400 II's and they are fantastic. I didnt rate the audio quality in the stock earphones at all. The sound quality on the Senny's is gorgeous.
