I thought, when you did a factory reset ... Menu > Settings > Security > Factory Reset, that it not only reset the phone, but also removed the custom rom i installed?

I'm new like a lot of others to the android thing. But like anything i do, i jump in feet first. I have searched the net, bookmarked a lot of useful information and check it all the time.

So far, i've rooted my phone first time around, installed custom rom's without a hitch. And i even went as far as trying to install the new android 2.1 for the cdma hero yesterday.

Was buggy, but i played with it a few hours, found some more bugs in it and decided to do a factory reset. So i pulled up the tutorials, since it was the first time doing so, followed them and everything seemed to go okay. But i ran into some issues.

A couple of the android process's broke. I can't remember which ones off the top of my head. So i did some searching and all answers led to a factory reset. Since i already did one, i figured i would try again.

Anyway, seems everything is good right now, re-downloaded some of my apps. But when i boot, it's still using the Aloysius Rom 1.0. Everthing else looks to be normal but that.

I was running into issues, where i messed something up and when i tried to access the HTC Sense home, the Fresh Rom i thought i had removed was trying to load, causing the android process error. So after the reset last night, it now loads only the last rom i had in place. i'm just a little confused.

Before installing a new rom, exactly what is the proper procedure?

These are my current phone settings:

    Model: HTC Hero
    Firmware: 1.5
    Kernel: 2.6.27GK-0.32
    Build #: Aloysius Rom
    Software Ver: 1.56.651.2

Also, i thought when you did a factory reset, it unrooted your phone? If not, how would one go about unrooting the phone in case it needs to be done?

    Thanks in advanced.

Nope, a reset merely wipes data and returns the handset to the setup defaults for the installed ROM. To return to stock you'll have to reflash a stock ROM.

I've moved this to the Sprint Hero sub-forum as it's a CDMA-specific issue.

factory reset just changes all the defaults back to when you pulled it out the box since you have a new rom flashed it will take you back to the stock for of that rom ..(read alot of problem with trying to flash anything over Aloysius Rom) IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK STOCK YOU WILL HAVE TO RUN THE RUU ...most people having problem with that rom have had ro do that and reroot in order to get someof the setting erased from that rom

Thank you for the reply's. Well, after my latest endeavor, i wiped and loaded a custom MaDaCo rom created with the kitchen. Everything seems to be running fine. Now just to re-download the apps from the app store.

Just for clarification, before i try to install a new rom, i should do a wipe period? Then flash the rom from the card?
