OK, this isnt as stupid of a question as it sounds at first.
I know how to actually do a factory reset.

My question is, does anyone know where the thread is that explained all the steps in backing up your information (with certain applications) before doing a factory reset? There was a thread here that told you certain applications that will make sure your data was backed up so you can restore it all after the reset.

I remember seeing on on this forum a while ago, but after searching a few times, I cant find it.

I'm hoping a factory reset will help with my icon lag issue and the general sluggishness of my phone.

If someone can link me to the thread, I would be very appreciative.
    Thanks.

I appreciate the attempt, but that is not the thread I was looking for, nor do any of those links take me to the thread.

Even still, i know how to do the actual reset, I just want to see the steps people do beforehand to make the transition after the reset an easy one.

Okay, so what is it exactly you are asking? I will answer it myself instead of hunting for the exact link.

Because after reading your OP, i think the thread you are probably referring to is with a rooted droid. Using titanium backup.

Hmmm, you could be right with the rooting thing, but titanium backup doesnt sound familiar. When forcing the 2.2 update, i did have to temporarily root my device, so maybe i saw it in that thread.

Basically, there was a thread (or post, i cant be sure) that gave a step by step how-to on how to do a factory reset. But in addition to the "hold x while turning on the device, yadda yadda" it told you about certain apps that will help in backing up your info.

However, I dont want to root my phone again if its unavoidable.
Just how hard is getting your phone back to where it was after doing a factory reset?

You can lose certain data on apps, but all your apps will push back to the device since you are on 2.2.

Now, if you have a custom launcher (LauncherPro or ADW) you can back up homescreens/desktops and settings which will save time.

All in all, doing a reset will probably make a good difference on your device. I would highly recommend it for the lag issues you are having.

Thanks, I guess I'll give it a try.

Just not looking forward to "making it mine" again.

Do you have any tips before I start? Maybe something I may not have thought of to do?

Go to settings, accounts/sync, and sync your google contacts one more time just to be safe.

Also, just in case i would write down a list of the apps incase google servers fail to re add any apps.

Thats really all i can think of.

Oh, I just remembered my big question.
Is there a way to backup my text message log and call log?
Or is that only with a rooted phone?

Another quick question, and thanks for all of your help today.

If i root my phone, do a backup with titanium, reset my phone, root again, restore with titanium, then unroot my phone; will my phone be working fine?

I guess, is there any harm in rooting and then backing up/restoring with titanium and unrooting?

    Thanks!

Yes, use MyBackupPro. It will save your call log, SMS and other settings and allow you to recover them after the reset. It works without root, but if you are rooted it can actually backup individual programs and their data, much like TiBackup.

    Yes.
I use it often to restore data after flashing new ROMS and themes.

I also used it to restore data when I was running the stock software as well.
I was having an issue with sync and a reset was the only thing that would fix the problem.

I have had a few issues with it recovering MMS from time to time but otherwise it's a solid app.

Thanks, I used it yesterday and it came as advertised.
I didnt have to restore my apps, as the phone reloaded them for me automatically.
But, it did restore my call log, sms/mms, etc.
    Thanks!
