Probably, but dont' know how stable it would be, or how much more heat it would put out.

The short answer is no. It was tried and very unstable and too hot to where Zefie pulled the Rom and he knew what he was doing. Now 2.1 might be different but right now, no.

Overclocking isn't always a good thing. It can present instability, heat issues, and even a negative performance curve from stock settings even if it is stable. Why would you want to OC this phone anyways?

If you don't have efficient cooling, or if you pump too much voltage into the chip then overclocking is bad for it. Most chips today in desktops and even mobile platforms are created with overclocking in mind.

Is there an easy way to throttle the CPU *down* during Screen-off?

The CPU throttles way down when the phone is asleep.

Way down. 200-300mhz for most android phones, this one is probably the same.
