my phone couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2 because i used the unrevoked method of rooting. in order for me to get 2.2 i updated my phone with the pc36img.zip file and then rooted again with unrevoked.

Now when i'm trying update from 2.2 with the new 3.29.651.5 update, the phone will have the triangle with a exclamation point.

    Any ideas? thanks

    I had the same issue...

first I flashed with the Unrevoked forever...

Then I put the pc36img.zip back on it, wiping everything...

THEN I could install the update...

Same here . . . I also used unrevoked. I'm just glad when I pulled the battery and turned the phone back on that it didn't go right back to that error screen.

I too am rooted with Unrevoked 3.21 and received the "Yellow Triangle of Sadness" as I call it. However, it wasn't unrevoked fault...it had to do with the fact that I went bloatware killing crazy and removed some apps it was looking for before it updated (Twitter apps comes to mind).

Luckily, I made a nand backup before I started deleting stuff, so I restored my backup and updated without a hitch.

    Hopes it helps someone.

I don't think it has anything to do with killing bloatwear cause I had the same thing and the only thing I've done was run unrevoked to gain root. Haven't changed roms or anything yet.

I too have the Triangle of Sadness. My phone is Unrevoked, but I haven't changed the ROM or kernel. Awaiting a resolution...

I had the same problem. I used the 2 step un-root, went back to stock, updated then re-rooted. There is a Rom up at XDA that has the updated firmware, and the new fresh is up with it as well. That's if you don't want to go through the hassle of unroot and re-rooting.

[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS - xda-developers

There is the link to unroot if you go that route.

The way I found out it was a problem with my bloatware removal is because I tried doing the update manually using the official OTA .zip from this link:
    http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5-3.26.651.6_release8yp9szc4r5dsdg85.zip

It gives you a lot more information as to what it is doing and why it fails.

For those that don't know how to use that file, here is a quick how-to:
1- download the file from the link above.
    2- rename it to update.zip
3- place it in the rood of your SDCARD
    4- boot into recovery
5- Select apply from SDcard: Update.zip (or something like that)
    6- select YES

That will initiate the update. If it fails it will let you know why.

I had to manually update when I had unrevoked 1 and it worked like a charm. It also does NOT wipe your info.

    Hope this helps someones.

Assuming you didn't delete the apps that it will look for (htctwitter, footprints for sure..could be more though), then the update should work.

I deleted a lot of the bloatware prior to the OTA (twitter and footprints specifically) and wasn't able to update. By using the manual update process I described I was able to see what I was missing and restore those apps. After restoring the apps the update went through smooth as silk.

BTW: You will lose root, but I just reran Unrevoked 3.21 (the root method I used) and back to business!

Worked! I was using Veal 2.1 with the font pack. If I stay with this, is there a way, or a font pack available for other roms as well...sorry, probably should check another thread more in depth, but couldn't find it...

Love having the entire phone being 1 font and as bold as I like it. For instance in gmail, its so faded/light.

    Thank You

Worked great. Just finished using your steps to manually apply patch. Then after it finished reran the UR 3 to get root back. Thanks for the steps.

This definitely helps! Unfortunately, I didn't make backups of my /system/app/HtcFootprints.odex file (or possibly others), can anyone help?
