Cant set up google account, cant access Android MarketSupport

  1. Hello,

I'm new with my Xperia X8 and all the Android world. I bought it used to another person, 3 weeks ago. The issue is this: I can't set up gmail account. When I go to "Setup guide" to set up gmail account, I hit the "set up" option and I get nothing on the screen. Is like not pressing the set up option at all. When I go to Market app, screen goes white as well, and no access to it. That means I can't download Android Market apps, and can't install any theme, which is what I'm trying to do. The previous owner was able to do it, because there was a few "market apps" and "no market apps" install on the phone. So, here are the steps I already completed to solve the problem. First, I reset the phone to its original settings (meaning I lost some cool apps). I tried to install xrecovery to make a back up but got stuck in the process because I couldn't download a market app that was needed. Also, I changed the gmail password to set up the gmail account but it was useless. I have read a lot of threads but I can find he solution. Besides all this, my Xperia X8 works perfectly. I'll really appreciate help.

    Thanks.

Is it rooted? Does it have a custom ROM without the Google apps loaded? If so, you will need to flash the appropriate gapps to the phone.

For the xRecovery ;) You can DL Root Explorer from here :

    Code (Text):
    1. http://blapkmarket.com/en/login/
DL install it via ADB install from cmd and then dl the xRecovery files from here :

    Code (Text):
    1. http://www.mediafire.com/?lz6gwgohuakvbfo
And now install it manualy :
    Manual Installation:
    - Download and unpack the recovery package
    - use Root Explorer to remount /system rw
    - copy the content of the package (3 files) into /system/bin folder
    - set permissions individually to 777 on each of the 3 files from the zip ;)

    Hi,

    You got three options.

    1) If you are running Official Eclair 2.1.1 -> Repair your phone software using PC Companion
    2) If you have a custom ROM with xRecovery -> flash all google apps again here
    3) If you have a custom ROM with xRecovery -> flash your custom ROM all over again

If you have decided to flash a new ROM have a look at these post...
    For Floyo-0.20 here
    For Gingerbread 2.3.3 here

    cheers :)
  6. Ok, first thank you all for your responses! Im not using a custom ROM! I haven't make any changes to my Xperia X8, besides the factory reset. The firmware I'm using is: 2.1 -update 1. Remember, my main issue is that I CAN'T SET UP MY GMAIL ACCOUNT WITH THE PHONE, meaning I can't download Android Market apps. Once I solve this, I think I can follow threads on how to install custom ROMS and how to change my theme.

How can I repair the phone software using PC Companion? Where is the option? How can I register my gmail account into Android Market to download?

    Thank you all...

    Hi,

    A) To Re-Flash Official 2.1.1 Android Eclair
    - download and install PC Companion from Sony Ericsson website here
    - <launch> PC Companion <click> Start under Support Zone then <click> Start under Software Update and then <click> Repair and follow on screen instructions...

Sequence of Events (roughly as follows...)
    - PC Companion will download the 2.1.1 Eclair firmware
    - It will ask you to switch off your phone
    - connect phone with USB and hold your back button of phone then connect USB to PC
    - update of phone software will start
    - once completed phone will reboot

    B) Register Google Account:
    - it is better if you register a Google Account using your PC, then just sign in your google ID and password from your phone at setup.
    - go to Google Website here register an account

    - upon successful creation of Google Account
    - go back to Xperia X8 use your google ID and password sign in from your phone at setup

    cheers :)

  8. Thanks for your answer gabeyong!!!!!

That link you provided me is for setting up a new gmail account! I already have one! When I go to "SETUP" to sign in into my gmail account, i press into the button but I recieve nothing on the screen! Is like not pressing the "set up" option at all! Thats my main issue! Is this only happens with google account, not with email account or others. Is only for google account!

    Thanks.

I solved in a very unorthodox way, i added my account with the YouTube app included in the phone and since google owns youtube it added the account automatically to gmail and market apps.
