I bought a third-party car charger for my Droid today, and used it on and off. I noticed that the tip of the charging cord was growing quite hot, and I did some research and found out that the voltage of the car charger was too high for the Droid (6.1V).

I understand that using a charger with too much voltage has the potential to damage my Droid; how do I tell whether such damage has occured? Thanks.

Does it still work fine? I mean I know that doesn't contribute too much, but no one else was saying anything :p.

I would think if you don't notice anything malfunctioning then I don't see the problem. I would imagine it would either still work, or not work. The only way you would notice battery damage is if the started expanding (would sort of puff up) or wasn't holding charge properly.
