The purpose of this tutorial is to change the generic windows icon of your G1 to an Android icon. What icon you ask? The generic removable disk icon given to your G1 when you plug it in to your PC. i thought it would be fun to create one that differentiates it from the rest. So here we go!

    1. First of all we are going to download the pack ive created for you here.

    2. Second we are going to rename the drive to Android G1 like i have on this image.

    3. Third we are simply going to unpack the files you downloaded using an application like, WinRAR or 7-Zip. WinRAR offers you a 30day trial and 7-Zip is an open source freeware product. Choose one that fits you.

    4. Now we are simply going to drag it into the root of the drive. Seeing since mine is the "K:/" drive, im going to place it in there. Once that is done, highlight both icons and choose properties and check off the "Hidden" attribute so that you don't accidentally delete them.

    5. You're all set! Enjoy your new icon! Im going to be making a Vista version for all you people that like high quality icons. Stay tuned!

    ***UPDATE***
I went ahead and created another set. One for Vista and one for XP users. This time, instead of the cute looking android character, i used one of the actual phone. Heres what it looks like. No need to rename files, just drag and drop from the packs ive created.

    XP G1 Icon 48x48
    Vista G1 Icon 256x256
    Transparent Android Icon (Thanks wirbly!)

I would like to agree with the others, but I can't. Not because I don't like it, but because I can't download the package. I HATE YOU, FIREWALL!

Heh, I love the icon! One thing you forgot.
    The Mac Users!
    For Mac OSX 10.x:
    Download and unrar the file.
Open the android.ico file with preview.
Click on the icon picture anywhere.
Press command+c (command and c at the same time) This is copy, like cntrl +c on Windows.
Right click (or control click if you have 1 button) on the android drive icon.
    Select get info.
In the top left corner of the get info window is a little thumbnail. Click that to select it.
    Press command+v to paste.
    Done....

Its such a small thing but its quite cool.

If you need an alt place to host I can throw it up on my webpage for linkage and stuff. Otherwise excellent find.

I wonder if Autorun could be set to make it play a mp3 or .wav file... having my computer say "Find Sarah Connor" whenever I plug my phone in would be humorous

and by the way. i had to reboot windows for it to take effect and actually display the icon. not sure why, but windows must have just been in one of its moods...

The XP G1 Icon 48x48 and Vista G1 Icon 256x256 both point to the same file which is a 48x48 icon.
