That's fine, I just wanted to find out if you were keeping the same battery between phones.

I had started having this problem about a week after I got the phone. It would charge perfectly, (I charge it overnight every night) then suddenly it wouldn't charge much at all overnight (6% to about 23% in over 8 hours). I always turned my phone off to charge (force of habit) but I started leaving my phone on instead and I haven't had the problem since.

Mine will charge also if its left turned on....is this how its supposed to be? I have never owned a phone that you had to leave it on to charge it. Does anyone who owns this phone have any success turning it off and it charges successfully?
  5. I had only tried to charge with the phone off when I first bought the phone, left it on initial charge until the light was green, since then I have only charged it with the phone on. But as a test I just turned mine off then plugged it into the USB port on my laptop, it was about 75% charged though but it managed to charge to 100% in about 1

I live in the US so Im not sure where mine was manufactured. All I know is if I turn off the phone and then charge it the light shows orange but when I wake up in the morning it is still showing orange and it is at the same level as when I first bought it. The only time it worked with the phone turned off was during the initial charge of the phone. I really don't know if I should take this back again or not!!

During the initial charge/discharge process, you're not supposed to turn the phone off at all.
  8. really? I didn't turn mine on until it was fully charged first time. works fine though.

That should be fine, but turning it on and off again isn't recommended.
  10. well it does sound as though its a hardware fault somewhere. If you've returned all your phones to the same retailer you would think that they would try to find a solution to the problem, I cant believe you're the only one .... take it back and ask?
  11. how do you mean, whats problem does that cause? I turn mine off regularly when I have no use for it.

Now you have me really confused El Presidente. Why would I turn a brand new phone on first before the initial charge? When I asked you for the proper steps you didnt say to turn it on during the initial charge? Why will it charge with it turned on and it doesnt when its powered off? Just doesnt make any sense!!

He meant during the first initial charge/discharge cycle.

Lithium Ion batteries are best stored partially charged, so they have a partial charge out of the box and it won't hurt to turn it on to charge then.

As to why you have charging issues while turned off, I can't really say.

Wires have been crossed, potentially my fault from misinternpreting some of what's been written, apologies! :)

Procedure for charging a new phone:

    1. Connect the Phone to the Mains
    2. Turn on Phone
    3. Run through Initial Setup
    4. Leave the phone charging for 8 or so hours/overnight
    5. Unplug, and DO NOT turn on or off until the phone has completely exhausted the battery.
    6. Charge completely again (the phone can be on or off).

    Alternatively, you can do this:

    1. Connect the Phone to the Mains
    2. Leave the phone charging for 8 or so hours/overnight
    3. Turn on Phone
    4. Run through the initial setup, leave charging for another 30 mins or so.
    5. Unplug, and DO NOT turn on or off until the phone has completely exhausted the battery.
    6. Charge completely again (the phone can be on or off).

After that, you're free to charge the phone as you wish, turn it on/off as you wish etc.

Does that help? Again, apologies if I'd appeared to have given conflicting information before.

There could be a hardware issue. Try calling your carrier or HTC.

He's not the only one. I've returned 5 phones for the same issue and I'm still having problems with my 6th phone. I called HTC a while back and they said it's not normal, and I should take it back or send it to them for repair. :S You guys think it's the battery? Should I try ordering a new one? or is it the phone? or the software for not reading the correct charge on the phone?

HTC said its not normal? Wow they are good!!! LOL...Its good to know Im not the only one....what store did you purchase yours from and is it a Virgin Mobile phone? Did the store give you a hard time?

I got mine from Best Buy and it is Virgin Mobile. What region are you from in the U.S.? Maybe the bad ones are from the same place.

So El Presidente was asking about any constants, maybe same battery?, and OP said no. I am thinking the same thing, all 6 phones bad? I guess it's possible, but strange.

I read through the posts, and I didn't see any mention if you kept the same charger, or if you also replaced the charger. If the same charger, that could be faulty.

I am not an electrician, but I wonder if a bad wall outlet, or house wiring (low/high, fluctuating power), make the charger work improperly, or damage it?
